Job Description
- Responsibilities
- This position is responsible for performing simple to complex serologic investigations on donor and patient samples.
- As defined by CLIA/NYSDOH, this position is responsible forpre-analytic, analytic procedures, maintaining records of tests and for reporting test results in a high complexity laboratory.
- This position performs only those tests that are authorized by the
CLIA/NYSDOH
laboratory director and performs only those tests that require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities.- Perform serological testing on patient and donor samples received for consultation
- Prepare laboratory reagents and chemicals
- Performs and documents laboratory quality control tasks and proficiency testing in the same manner as patient/donor samples
- Performstasks associated with red cell and/or platelet antibody detection
- Identification, testing and procurement of antigen negative donor units
- Maintenance of rare donor inventories, as needed
- Consult with internal and external clients on issues related to immunohematology
- Maintain accurate, concurrent, and complete records under strict time limits utilizing computerized systems.
- Recognizes and reports problems encountered during performance of job tasks including equipment malfunction, deviation from standard operating procedure, unusual results, and discrepancy in test controls or controls outside established normal limits.
- Follows laboratory policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications
- Reviews draft reports, as applicable + Participates in educational programs to meet national or state regulatory requirements + Makes recommendations for improvement in processes and practices in the laboratory + Assists with equipment maintenance and quality control testing + Reports and bills for patient test results + Knowledge of other Laboratory Information Systems as appropriate + Follows Good Manufacturing Processes at all times, with attention to detail.
- Qualifications
Minimum Education:
- + Associates Degree in Medical Technology or + Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology or + Bachelor's Degree in a Physical, Chemical, or Biological Science (RIBC - with ASCP certification).
Experience:
- 0 - 1 years of relevant technical and service-related industry experience that has supplied the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Preferred Education
- : Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
- Preferred Qualifications
- : Medical Laboratory Scientist ASCP Certification, Blood Banking ASCP Certification or equivalent, Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) ASCP Certification.
- Required Licenses/Certifications
- : Successful completion of a nationally recognized certification examination (ASCP or equivalent).
Schedule:
- Full time, Mon. through Fri. - 2nd shift Proposed rate of pay: $33.00 - $36.00 per hr.
