Overview About our organization Project Perry / The Central Virginia Parrot Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and sanctuary of parrots living in captivity. Our primary mission is to provide exceptional natural environments for our residents where they can enjoy the enrichment of flight and the togetherness of flock with excellent care provided by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. Parrots and other exotic birds represent the largest population of captive wildlife in the U.S., and the need to protect them continues to grow. Our impact extends beyond our residents through outreach and education

•helping to improve the lives of birds everywhere. Duties ​The role of the caretaker is an important one, ensuring that the parrots are treated properly and receive high-quality care so they may flourish at the Sanctuary. The caretaker must maintain a close working relationship with the Executive Director to ensure they properly complete tasks as assigned by the Executive Director. While these tasks will vary, it may include any combination of the following: In the morning, aid in the preparation of the fresh fruit and vegetable mix Prepare food trays and dishes Clean cages, flighted rooms and food preparation areas In the morning, follow protocol to ensure food quantities and placements have been followed, as well as daily cleaning and monitoring procedures Special projects as designated by the Executive Director or Senior Staff (RARE) ​If you are interested, send a short note letting us know why you'd like to work here caring for our awesome residents at Project Perry! Qualifications Parrot knowledge is a plus but NOT required. We will train. Understand, the parrots at the sanctuary are not the parrots you may have met in pet stores. They have been through a lot in life and need someone interested in taking the time to get to know them before they give their trust. Once you have their trust, it is one of the greatest rewards.
