The Fellowship This is a two-year, full-time postdoctoral training experience with progressively increasing clinical responsibility and independence. The primary focus is advanced training in comprehensive neuropsychological assessment. Fellows learn to move beyond test administration and individual scores to develop sophisticated case formulations that integrate cognitive, developmental, academic, emotional, behavioral, medical, and neurological information. You will develop advanced skills in: Clinical and developmental interviewing Neuropsychological test administration and interpretation Differential diagnosis Assessment of attention and executive functioning Memory and learning assessment Language and visual-spatial assessment Academic and learning disorder assessment Social and emotional assessment Integration of complex clinical data Neuropsychological report writing Parent and client feedback Treatment planning and recommendations qEEG brain mapping and its integration with clinical assessment Multidisciplinary consultation As your skills develop, you will take increasing ownership of cases while continuing to receive supervision, consultation, and mentorship. The goal at the end of two years is not simply for you to have completed the supervised hours necessary for licensure. About Abbey Neuropsychology Clinic For more than 19 years, Abbey Neuropsychology Clinic has provided comprehensive neuropsychological assessment and neuroscience-based intervention for children, adolescents, and adults in Palo Alto. Our approach to assessment is somewhat different from a traditional test-and-diagnose model. Diagnosis matters, but we believe an excellent evaluation should do more than identify a disorder. It should help a person or family understand why difficulties are occurring, how different aspects of functioning interact, where strengths can be leveraged, and what can realistically be done next. Our evaluations integrate clinical interviews, developmental history, neuropsychological testing, academic and emotional assessment, and qEEG brain mapping when appropriate. We work with individuals presenting with ADHD, learning disorders, autism, executive functioning difficulties, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation difficulties, concussion and traumatic brain injury, memory concerns, and other complex neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive presentations. Because our clinic provides both assessment and intervention, fellows also have the opportunity to see what happens after the evaluation . Rather than simply diagnosing a client and moving on, we are often able to follow clients over time and observe how assessment findings inform treatment and how functioning changes in response to intervention. This creates an unusual opportunity to refine your clinical judgment by seeing whether your formulations and recommendations actually make sense in the context of a person's life. Training and Mentorship The central purpose of this fellowship is clinical development . You will work closely with experienced clinicians and receive structured supervision as you develop your skills in assessment, interpretation, diagnostic reasoning, report writing, feedback, and treatment planning. You will also receive training in qEEG brain mapping and learn how neurological information can be considered alongside neuropsychological findings, developmental history, behavior, and the client's real-world functioning. Fellows receive exposure to interventions used within the clinic, which may include neurofeedback, cognitive and executive functioning interventions, psychotherapy, vision-related interventions, photobiomodulation, neuromodulation, and other neuroscience-informed approaches when clinically appropriate. We do not expect incoming fellows to have experience with all of these methods. Neuropsychology experience is helpful, but extensive prior experience with qEEG or neurotechnology is not required. We will train the right person. What matters more is your ability to learn, think critically, accept supervision, and remain curious when a case does not fit neatly into a diagnostic category.
