Job Description

Psychologist with 39 years' clinical experience looking for an intern (Psychological Associate, AMFT or ACSW) for work in a private practice setting in Pleasant Hill, CA.
Requirements:
You must have completed an MA or Psy.

D or its equivalent in clinical psychology or social work and be eligible to apply for an internship number with the BBSE or Board of Psychology. Please do not apply if you don't meet these criteria or won't within three months. You must also be available to meet in person in my Pleasant Hill office for group supervision for a two-hour block sometime Monday-Wednesday. Who I'm looking for: an introspective and passionate clinician in the making who feels a calling for this work and wants mentoring to hone clinical skills and develop a professional identity. Candidates must have had some personal therapy. What I'm offering: Your training will be on both external and internal dimensions. At the external level, in addition to general help in learning to work with a wide gamut of clinical issues, I can offer specialized training in Imago couple's therapy, sand tray therapy, and ketamine assisted therapy. I can also help you learn some of the business and marketing aspects of this work. At our weekly group supervision meeting, we will also study and master the DSM-5, as this knowledge will serve you in any professional setting for the entirety of your career. At the internal level, my goal is to create the safest possible environment for you so that you can learn to trust your internal responses to clinical situations, even ones that make no sense logically or that you might be embarrassed to admit to a supervisor. I believe that the most important tool a clinician brings to this work is their full self, and I see my role as helping you identify and nurture those qualities that are unique to you and can make you unique in this work. You cannot do this without developing a trust in what happens to you internally when you sit with a client.
Miscellaneous:
1) Your reimbursement will be 50% of the fees you charge. 2) My interns get referrals through me on one Employee Assistance panel and from MediCal, but I will also expect you to develop your own referral sources. 3) I can supervise you competently in work with adults of all ages and couples. I cannot supervise child therapy although a child therapist colleague may be available to supervise you separately for child cases. 4) I will expect you to video or audio record your sessions as I find this allows for the most effective supervisory experience. 5) I encourage you to visit my website ( joshgressel.com ) to see if you think we might be a good fit.
