DESCRIPTION OF BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the general direction of the assigned administrator, provides psychological services to pupils, parents and school staffs for the purpose of providing a positive learning atmosphere, promotes better pupil adjustment, and promotes the full utilization of District and community educational opportunities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Administers to pupils (on an individual basis) intelligence tests, language tests, adaptive functioning assessments, achievement tests, personality tests, tests to measure perceptual and motor development, and/or other tests, as appropriate to aid the IEP team in determining special education eligibility. Evaluates and interprets all testing and assessments and participates in the determination of special education eligibility. Makes recommendations to aid in the educational planning for individuals with exceptional needs. Interprets assessment finding to parents/professionals. Counsels parents/professionals regarding pupil progress, response to interventions, potential, achievement level, personality adjustment, social skills, and learning difficulties. Recommends to parents/professionals ways of helping the pupil and resources from which they may seek further assistance. Consults with other agencies and with other psychologists, counselors, psychiatrists, school districts, and physicians for the purpose of correlating all available information regarding individuals with exceptional needs, as appropriate. Counsels with individual pupils regarding assessments, academic, social, and/or emotional problems. Writes assessment reports and completes psychological portions of IEP's and provides assessment results to case manager in a timely manner prior to the IEP. Conducts crisis counseling as necessary. 10. Confers with professional staff on finding of individual tests and helps them in their efforts to better understand and provide services to each pupil. 11. Consults with parents, teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to assist with the delivery of services to special needs students. 12. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service activities provided by the District and/or other professional growth activities. 13. Provides the assigned schools with awareness of compliance with state and federal regulations. May participate in District and State Coordinated Compliance Reviews, as scheduled. 14. Participates and provides assessment support for initial, transfer-in, triennial and manifestation IEP's. Participates in review IEP's when appropriate. 15. Maintains student confidential files. 16. Attends District and other staff meetings as required. 17. Maintains timely, regular, and consistent attendance at work. SKILLS and

ABILITIES

1. Has knowledge of current testing practices, procedures, and assessment methods related to student assessment and psychology 2. Possesses effective individual and group counseling techniques 3. Has knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding special education 4. Has knowledge of IEP preparation and implementation methods and procedures 5. Possesses knowledge of appropriate public and community referral agencies 6. Possesses appropriate and effective consultation skills 7. Maintains professional confidentiality and works collaboratively with peers 8. Interacts appropriately with agencies, students, parents, and professionals 9. Works independently with minimal supervision 10. Works with District personnel and the general public in a pleasant and cooperative manner 11. Communicates effectively orally and in writing in English 12. Has knowledge of computer technology and is able to utilize standard office software programs proficiently

QUALIFICATIONS

Hold a

California Pupil Personnel Services:

School Psychologist authorization Hold a valid California Driver's License Master's Degree in an educationally related field Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

1. Work indoors in a standard office environment, computer lab and/or classroom environment 2. Work may be performed in indoor and outdoor environments 3. Maybe be required to work during emergency situations 4. Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment for sustained periods of time on hard flooring, climb slopes, stairs, ramps and to respond to emergency situations 5. Manual dexterity sufficient to write, use the telephone, operate computer, copy machine and other office equipment in a safe and efficient manner 6. Hearing sufficient to communicate in person and hold telephone conversations in normal range (approximately 60 decibels) 7.
