Job Overview:
The Staff Psychologist addresses the biopsychosocial needs of children, adolescents, and young adults admitted with complex medical needs, joining a dynamic multidisciplinary team. The psychologist provides diagnostic interviews, cognitive and neuropsychological testing, and psychotherapeutic support for pediatric patients and their families. This essential role supports diverse clinical pathways, including Brain Injury, General Rehabilitation, Spinal Cord Injury, Infant/Toddler care, Chronic Illness, and Chronic Pain.
Qualifications:
Required:
PhD, PsyD, or EdD in Psychology Jersey Licensed Psychologist American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider Certification Valid driver's license 1+ year of job-related experience in a hospital or clinical setting Ability to work effectively in a hospital setting and collaborate with a professional medical team Ability to relate therapeutically with children, adolescents, and their parents or caregivers Flexibility in work hours, performance of duties, and an adaptable approach to patient care
Preferred:
Experience working with children and adolescents, including patients on the Autism Spectrum Experience with cognitive behavioral modification and behavioral medicine interventions Scheduling Requirements Full-Time (Day) May require on-call shifts
Essential Functions:
Performs complete psychodiagnostic evaluations with new patients and accurately identifies patient/family psychosocial needs Conducts clinical assessments in the specific areas of cognitive and neuropsychological functioning Provides effective individual, family, and group psychotherapy and interventions as clinically indicated Identifies realistic goals for intervention and delivers ongoing behavioral medicine support regarding treatment adherence, pain management, and medical coping mechanisms Provides effective team consultation, supporting clinical staff by consulting with nursing and medical teams and joining therapy sessions with rehab specialists (PT, OT, SLP, Recreation) Attends program development meetings, interdisciplinary case conferences, and research opportunities for treated or evaluated patients Disseminates assessment and testing findings accurately, sensitively, and in accordance with Department and hospital policies Provides professional supervision to staff, fellows, interns, and externs as designated by the program Provides inservices, clinical presentations, and educational trainings to staff and community agencies as requested by the Supervisor Displays competency in obtaining and interpreting patient and family behavior based upon a solid understanding of cognitive, bio-psychosocial, and aging processes Meets minimum annual expected clinical volumes and performance standards
