General Responsibilities Establish and maintain proficiency in research and literature associated with adolescent depression, suicide prevention, and mental health education programs and screening assessments to be utilized in school based settings with middle, junior high, and high school aged students. Assist identified schools and districts in the education, awareness, and advancement of early identification of depression, suicide risk, and other mental health issues among students. Provision of on site mental health and behavioral consultation services in school settings to assist school personnel in addressing and coordinating services for students with identified mental health and/or behavioral needs. Specific Essential Functions of the Job 1. Development of School-Based Education/Awareness and Screening Programs Establish, promote, and maintain relationships with local public, parochial, and charter school systems. Work with key building administrators and personnel in promoting the rationale, value, and effectiveness of school-based depression, suicide, and mental health education and screening services. Assist schools in the development of school-based education and screening programs utilizing appropriate education/awareness presentation formats and assessment tools. Develop an implementation design tailored to the individual school needs. Monitor and provide assistance after program development and implementation to assure continuation, and assist with modification as needed. 2. Development of School-Based Education/ Awareness and Screening Programs Lead or assist in the implementation of education programs and administration of appropriate screening tools consistent with the implementation design developed with the school. Lead or assist in the scoring of the screening tool(s) utilized and the interpretation of results to assist in identifying students needing further assessment or follow-up. Lead or assist in conducting follow-up meetings and face-to-face interviews with students, as needed. 3. Linkage and Referral Assist in coordinating services, making appropriate referrals, and monitoring follow through with recommendations made which, resulted from screening and/or interview. 4. Training and Development Participate in relevant training to acquire skills and competency in adolescent depression and appropriate education/awareness programs. Acquire knowledge and demonstrate competency in screening and assessment tools recognized as evidence-based and effective by the professional community and determined to be appropriate by Alta. Participate in ongoing professional growth and development to stay abreast of the most current evidence-based education and screening and tools. 5. Consultation Provide behavioral consultation services to school personnel as requested, in order to promote effective classroom and student behavioral management. Participate on Positive Student Support Teams (PSST's) as needed and as appropriate. 6. Documentation and Record Keeping Maintain appropriate records to fulfill Alta, School, and/or other regulatory body requirements. Complete all required paperwork necessary for tracking and documenting all services provided. 7. Program Evaluation and Development Assist the Department and Clinical Directors in collecting and interpreting data necessary to appropriately evaluate the services provided. 8. Record Keeping Complete all required supervisory forms to validate student and/or staff training or work experience to State Professional Boards, as necessary. 9. Miscellaneous Other duties as assigned by the Department Director or Chief Executive Officer. 10. Verification Submits accurate accounting of daily activities so as to meet established time lines as required by the M.I.S. Program. 11. Support to the Agency If appointed, serve on the Continuous Quality Improvement Committee, or other task forces or Committees, as necessary. Attend supervision, team, departmental, or Alta staff meetings. Work Relations/Characteristics 1. Efficient use of time. 2. Prompt completeness of assigned tasks. 3. Specific Essential Conditions of Employment 1. Physical ability, with reasonable accommodation if necessary, to perform specific responsibilities included in the job description. 2. Ability to transport self to and from Alta Offices, schools, and other locations within the community or elsewhere necessary to meet the requirements of the job. Possesses a valid Driver's License. Current auto liability insurance to the limits required by the Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles. 4. Citizen of the United States. 5. Absence of part criminal activity, which would bring into question professional and personal integrity as it applies to the position responsibilities. 6. Ability to pass drug screening testing if required. 7. Flexibility in adjusting work schedule, days and hours as necessary, to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. 8. Ability to use a computer and efficiently learn necessary software programs. Minimum Qualifications 1. Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Social Work or other related mental health discipline. 2. Minimum of three (3) years' experience in a child or adolescence serving setting such as a mental health settings, school, etc. Preferred Qualifications 1. Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work or other related mental health discipline. 2. Minimum of five (5) years' experience in a child or adolescence serving setting such as a mental health settings, school, etc.
