This is a working leadership position for an experienced Radiation Therapist who enjoys combining clinical expertise with team leadership. The Chief Radiation Therapist will oversee daily radiation therapy operations, supervise and develop Radiation Therapists and clinical staff, support regulatory and accreditation requirements, and provide direct patient treatment and CT simulation coverage as needed. Conventional 2D and 3D treatments Our department utilizes Varian TrueBeam and Varian iX linear accelerators , an in-house GE Discovery CT simulator , Varian Eclipse treatment-planning software, and the ARIA oncology information system. The department treats approximately 60 patients per day and performs approximately 5-6 CT simulations daily . What You'll Do Clinical & Operational Leadership Oversee daily radiation therapy treatment and CT simulation operations. Provide direct treatment and CT simulation coverage when operational needs require. Coordinate daily treatment and simulation schedules, including urgent and add-on cases. Serve as a clinical resource for complex treatment procedures and patient-care issues. Ensure treatments are delivered safely and accurately in accordance with physician orders, treatment plans, departmental protocols, and regulatory requirements. Oversee treatment time-outs, image guidance, dry runs, safety checks, chart checks, and other required clinical processes. Monitor treatment delays, patient wait times, workflow, staffing levels, and departmental productivity. Conduct daily safety huddles and regular staff and technical meetings. Collaborate closely with Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, Dosimetrists, Nursing, and administrative leadership. Team Leadership & Staff Development Supervise, schedule, coach, and evaluate Radiation Therapists and applicable clinical support staff. Coordinate staffing coverage, time-off requests, overtime, attendance, and timekeeping. Ensure appropriate meal and rest break compliance in coordination with Human Resources. Lead onboarding, training, competency validation, and ongoing professional development. Establish clear performance expectations and provide timely coaching and feedback. Address performance concerns in accordance with Company policies and applicable law. Support recruitment, interviewing, selection, and retention of radiation therapy staff. Build a positive department culture centered on accountability, communication, teamwork, and patient-centered care. Quality, Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements, including CDPH, NRC, CMS, and Joint Commission requirements, as applicable. Oversee treatment-chart audits, new-patient QA reviews, chart checks, and other departmental quality activities. Ensure incidents, near misses, treatment deviations, equipment concerns, and patient injuries are promptly reported and appropriately escalated. Participate in root-cause reviews and corrective-action activities. Maintain radiation safety standards and departmental safety procedures. Assist with regulatory inspections and corrective-action plans. Review and update departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and competency requirements as needed. Maintain appropriate compliance, QA, audit, and competency documentation. Process Improvement & Growth Evaluate workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, patient throughput, and quality. Collaborate with Physics and Dosimetry regarding simulation, treatment planning, and machine utilization. Monitor key departmental performance indicators. Assist with equipment planning, capital projects, technology implementation, and new program development. Support programs involving advanced treatment techniques such as SRS, SBRT, and HDR brachytherapy, as applicable. Coordinate departmental supplies and equipment needs. Patient Experience Promote a safe, respectful, and compassionate patient experience. Ensure patients receive appropriate education regarding radiation therapy procedures. Address patient concerns, grievances, and service-recovery needs. Support consistent adherence to patient-experience processes. Maintain a calm, professional presence during challenging clinical situations. What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program. Current ARRT certification and registration in Radiation Therapy (R.T.(T.)) . Current California Therapeutic Radiologic Technology certificate . Current BLS certification . Minimum 5 years of clinical experience as a Radiation Therapist. Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience in radiation therapy. Advanced knowledge of linear accelerator operations, CT simulation, IGRT, IMRT/VMAT, SRS/SBRT, and radiation therapy workflows. Strong knowledge of radiation safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, manage schedules, address performance issues, and maintain regulatory readiness. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to provide direct clinical coverage during staffing shortages, emergencies, or unexpected absences. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. Additional relevant supervisory or leadership experience in radiation oncology may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree. Experience with Varian TrueBeam, Varian iX, Eclipse, and ARIA . Experience with SRS, SBRT, VMAT, IGRT, and other advanced radiation therapy techniques. Experience with process improvement, accreditation, and regulatory inspections. Schedule Full-time 40 hours per week Monday-Friday Schedule may be adjusted based on patient-care and operational needs. Evening, weekend, or on-call coverage may be required as scheduled.
