About the Role Layers is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented DEXA Technician to conduct bone density and body composition scans as part of our in-person diagnostic testing experience. You will operate our DEXA imaging equipment with precision while ensuring every client feels comfortable, informed, and well cared for throughout the scanning process. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical imaging skills with excellent patient service and is excited to work in a modern, fast-growing healthcare environment. Depending on certification, this role may also include phlebotomy support, vital signs, client intake, and general clinic operations. Responsibilities Operate DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) equipment to perform bone density and body composition scans safely and accurately Position clients correctly for scans according to manufacturer and safety protocols Create a calm and comfortable experience for clients before, during, and after scans Verify test orders and client information before each scan Maintain accurate documentation within electronic health record systems, including scan results and client history Follow all radiation safety protocols and equipment maintenance procedures Monitor and calibrate DEXA equipment per manufacturer guidelines, and coordinate service/maintenance as needed Communicate scan results and next steps clearly to clients and providers Maintain appropriate inventory of scan-related supplies and notify the team when materials need reordering Keep the scanning area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards Assist with client intake, appointment flow, and other clinic operations as needed If also phlebotomy-certified: perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection per standard protocols Qualifications Current certification to operate a bone densitometer (DEXA), or a full active Radiology License/certification Demonstrated proficiency in DEXA positioning, image acquisition, and quality control Strong understanding of radiation safety and equipment calibration standards Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Ability to help nervous or first-time clients feel comfortable during scans Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation Comfortable using electronic health records and diagnostic imaging software Reliable, organized, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment Current Basic Life Support or CPR certification preferred Current or in-progress California Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification a strong plus (willingness to obtain if not already certified) Preferred Experience Experience operating DEXA equipment in a clinical, hospital, or diagnostic imaging setting Experience in a physician's office, laboratory, wellness clinic, concierge medical practice, or outpatient setting Experience with body composition analysis or sports medicine/performance testing Previous experience at a startup or fast-growing company, or genuine interest in working at one, a plus, not required. $27.00 - $38.00 per hour
