Position Overview Under the supervision of the Diagnostic Radiology Manager and/or Coordinator, the MRI Technologist performs a wide variety of technical and professional duties utilizing advanced MRI equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images for interpretation by the radiologist. This role combines clinical expertise, patient advocacy, and technical excellence to provide exceptional care while supporting efficient department operations. MRI Technologists may be assigned to any Yale New Haven Health MRI location based on operational and staffing needs.
Responsibilities:
MRI Imaging & Technical Performance Perform a wide variety of MRI procedures utilizing complex diagnostic imaging equipment. Follow established MRI protocols while exercising independent judgment as appropriate. Maintain efficient scanner utilization and workflow management. Review physician exam requisitions to ensure appropriate examinations are performed. Build and adjust scan protocols utilizing the correct pulse sequences and imaging parameters. Patient Care & Safety Deliver compassionate, patient-focused care while ensuring patient cooperation, comfort, and safety. Maintain 100% accuracy in MRI safety screening practices. Thoroughly explain procedures and provide emotional support to patients throughout the imaging process. Promote and uphold Yale New Haven Health's commitment to Service Excellence. Documentation & Department Operations Perform required record-keeping and customer service functions. Ensure accurate exam documentation and charge capture. Consistently select the correct patient from worklists and electronic systems. Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and team members to support efficient department operations. Education & Professional Development Participate in ongoing educational opportunities to enhance professional knowledge and technical expertise. Serve as a mentor and resource for new employees during orientation and training. Attend a minimum of five (5) departmental training/in-service programs annually as documented by leadership. Qualifications:
Education Graduation from an A.M.A.-approved Radiologic Technology program preferred. MRI Board Certification required. Associate degree preferred. Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience Minimum of one (1) year of MRI experience; OR Successful completion of the
YNHH MRI
Training Program plus MRI Board Certification. Licensure & Certifications MRI Board Certification required. ARRT certification preferred. Connecticut State License preferred. CPR Certification preferred. Skills & Knowledge Proficiency in routine MRI imaging techniques. Strong knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Commitment to patient-centered care and service excellence. Physical Requirements Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds to assist with patient transfers.
