Job Description
Overview UnityPoint-St Luke's PRN (as-needed) The MRI Technologist performs diagnostic MRI and X-ray exams (based on department needs) under the direction of a radiologist. The MRI Technologist provides compassionate direct patient care with an emphasis on maintaining organizational values and standards of behavior. The MRI Technologist operates MRI and X-ray equipment (if applicable) to produce diagnostic images of designated portions of the body utilizing various pulse sequences and surface coils. The MRI Technologist is required to participate in an on-call rotation outside of business hours based on department needs and must be able to work some weekends and holidays. Why UnityPoint Health? Responsibilities Clinical Excellence/Patient Care Completes a variety of high quality, patient-centered MRI and X-rayexams (based on department needs) on all age ranges (neonatal -elderly) and in varying locations throughout the hospital, in accordancewith established policies, procedures, and standards of care.- Understands and follows all processes related to MRI safety
- Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of organ/bone/vasculature crosssectional anatomy.
- Verify order with protocol and correlate with patient medical history
- Knowledge of utilization and insertion of proper size catheter/needleneeded to deliver proper/safe volume of contrast for specific protocols.
- Safe administration of IV contrast media.
- Monitors patients for seizures, claustrophobia, or contrast reaction;ability to act appropriately including code situations.
- Performs quality control (QC) procedures in compliance withmanufacturer and regulatory requirements independently, ensuringproper functioning of equipment and image quality.
- Troubleshoots equipment issues and errors and reports safety concernsand malfunctions promptly.
- Cleans departmental equipment and verifies all safety/health regulationsand policies are met.
- Demonstrates knowledge of multiple computer systems and applications(HIS, RIS, PACS and modality-specific), including documentation andreview of patient history as applicable.
- Communicates professionally, compassionately, and clearly withpatients, physicians, co-workers, and customers within and outside ofthe organization.
- Assists in the training and clinical instruction of students. Departmental Support Promotes the development, preparation, implementation and attainmentof departmental goals, policies and projects.
- Maintains an adequate level of productivity.
- Communicates with departmental management team as necessary whenproblems or unusual circumstances arise and documents as necessary.
- Communicates effectively inter- and intra-departmentally with otherhealthcare professionals and customers to provide accurate, timelyinformation and to reduce problems and minimize exceptions.
- Teaches orients, and mentors staff in assigned technical area to assurea smooth functioning, high quality operation.
- Orders and assures adequate supplies are available and utilized in acost-effective manner.
- Maintains cleanliness of equipment and workspace and reportsequipment malfunctions in a timely manner. Regulatory Compliance Maintains compliance and is responsible for executing and monitoringtechnical practices in order to meet necessary standards,recommendations, and requirements of voluntary and governmentagencies (i.e., IDPH, ACR, TJC, DNV).
- Understands and adheres to all safety practices (ALARA) whileperforming duties to minimize any risk of injury and/or exposure tounnecessary ionizing radiation.
- Possesses ability and makes good independent decisions based uponknowledge of the overall departmental functions, policies, andprocedures.
Qualifications Education:
Associate's Degree Radiologic Technology preferred.Experience:
Radiology experience in a hospital or clinic preferred.License/Certifications:
Registered as Radiologic Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) Upon Hire required. RTMR Registered as MRI Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) Upon Hire required.RTIA, RTIL, RTWI-WIDSPS.
Permit to Practice in the state that team member will be preforming Radiological Exams Upon Hire required. BCLS Current BCLS certification or obtained within 30 days for new hire.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of adult, pediatric, neonatal, and fetal physiology and anatomy. Ability to recognize normal and abnormal findings. Demonstration of compassionate patient care. Demonstration of effective communication and interpersonal skills. Maintain confidential information required.Benefits
