Responsibilities:

Position Summary The X-Ray Technologist is responsible for preparing patients for radiological procedures, accurately positioning patients, and safely operating X-ray equipment. This role ensures patient comfort while maintaining strict adherence to radiation safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and themselves.

Key Responsibilities Prepare patients for radiological procedures by explaining the process, positioning patients correctly, and performing X-rays in accordance with established patient care and safety standards. Operate and maintain X-ray equipment, ensuring proper functionality and reporting any malfunctions or concerns promptly to a supervisor. Utilize and maintain radiation protection and shielding equipment to ensure safety and regulatory compliance. Accurately document and enter radiological procedure data into the electronic health record (EHR) system in a timely manner. Maintain examination rooms by ensuring cleanliness, proper stocking of supplies, and adherence to sterilization protocols for equipment and surfaces. Monitor and evaluate imaging results to ensure quality and accuracy, following established guidelines. Protect patient confidentiality and uphold privacy standards in all interactions and documentation. Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain required certifications and professional affiliations. Attend and actively participate in organizational meetings, trainings, and committees as required. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Current certification and registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required; must be maintained in good standing. Active and unrestricted Indiana State Radiologic Technologist license required.

Skills Required:

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to perform x-ray testing is required. Knowledge of and experience with radiology equipment required. Knowledge of safety hazards common to radiology including equipment, body mechanics, and patient movement required. Working Conditions/Physical Demands Working environment is in enclosed space with radiologic equipment. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Work requires standing for long periods of time. Job requires excessive amounts of walking, also stooping, bending, stretching, and lifting to help position patients and equipment. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques. Lifts patients weighing up to 300 pounds, placing them in appropriate positions for operation of equipment. Requires manual and finger dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, etc.) and radiologic equipment. Requires eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of radiologic equipment. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 to operate equipment and review developed films. Hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts and to interact directly with patients. Regularly interacts with staff, physicians, and the public. Work may be stressful at times.
