Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research is seeking an experienced MRI technologist to join its collaborative neuroimaging research program. The Senior Research MRI Technologist will independently conduct research MRI examinations, ensure participant safety and comfort, assess image quality during acquisition, troubleshoot technical and participant-related problems, and collaborate with investigators to implement advanced imaging protocols. The position offers an opportunity to work in an intellectually varied research environment supporting studies in neuroscience, psychiatry, cognition, development, aging, and related areas. The technologist will work closely with neuroscientists, clinicians, physicists, engineers, research staff, and students. C-BIN is also expanding its imaging capabilities through the installation of a 9.4 Tesla research MRI system . The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of operational procedures, MRI-safety practices, quality-assurance workflows, participant preparation, equipment testing, and research-support processes for this new ultra-high-field platform. Prior ultra-high-field MRI experience is desirable but not required. Primary Responsibilities Independently operate the research MRI system and conduct high-quality neuroimaging examinations involving research volunteers and patient populations. Perform MRI safety screening, participant preparation, positioning, monitoring, and post-scan procedures. Execute standard and study-specific MRI protocols accurately and consistently. Assess image quality during acquisition and correct problems involving motion, artifacts, positioning, equipment, or protocol execution. Collaborate with investigators and technical personnel to implement and refine research imaging protocols. Support advanced neuroimaging studies, including functional MRI, diffusion MRI, MR spectroscopy, quantitative imaging, and multimodal acquisition. Perform scanner QA/QC, phantom imaging, equipment checks, scanner-performance monitoring, and technical documentation. Support MRI-compatible research equipment such as physiological monitoring, stimulus-presentation systems, eye tracking, EEG, and participant-response devices. Train research staff, students, investigators, and authorized scanner users in MRI safety and center procedures. Contribute to operational planning, workflow development, QA/QC implementation, safety preparation, and staff training associated with the new 9.4T research MRI system. Required Qualifications Current, active certification as an MRI Technologist (ARRT(MR) or ARMRIT) is required at the time of hire. Current MR Safety Officer (MRSO) certification is required at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications Several years of experience independently operating an MRI system. Strong knowledge of MRI safety, implant and device screening, emergency procedures, and safe scanner-room practices. Experience in research MRI, neuroimaging, an academic medical center, or another advanced imaging environment. Experience identifying and correcting common MRI artifacts and acquisition problems. Familiarity with advanced neuroimaging methods such as fMRI, diffusion MRI, MR spectroscopy, quantitative MRI, or multimodal imaging. Experience with MRI QA/QC, phantom scanning, scanner logs, and equipment-performance monitoring. Experience training technologists, research staff, students, or scanner operators. Interest in ultra-high-field MRI and experience supporting the implementation of new MRI systems, coils, research hardware, safety procedures, or QA/QC programs. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Appointment and Salary Official New York State title: Research Scientist 4 Salary Grade 27: $106,898-$131,665 annually This is a full-time, non-competitive New York State position represented by PEF, with a rotating schedule that includes regular weekend coverage in addition to standard weekday hours. Appointment is subject to applicable New York State qualification requirements and Division of Budget approval. NKI is a research facility of the New York State Office of Mental Health and is affiliated with NYU Langone Health. The Institute is located in Orangeburg, New York, approximately 20 miles north of Manhattan.
