TECHNOLOGIST JOB DESCRIPTION

Classification:

Full Time Three (3), twelve (12) hour shifts, 7a - 7p. Four (4) day weekend every other weekend. Facility closed all major Holidays. Position consist of one (1) Saturday, every other weekend. ARRT (MRI) Certification preferred.

The MRI Technologist performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures to create three dimensional images of tissue, organs and other body parts that are used by the radiologist to detect abnormalities and provide diagnosis.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Recognizes that patients and families of patients seen at The ODC are always cared for with the upmost respect. 2. Educated on Press Ganey patient surveys. Has had explained what is expected of all employees to reach a 95% or higher with the surveys. 4. HIPAA. 5.

Reviews imaging order from the referring healthcare provider. Confirm that the correct scan has been ordered and check for any special instructions. 6. Greets patient, and family if required, by correctly identifying patient using approved identifiers. 7. Gains patient's cooperation and reducing anxieties by providing explanation of imaging procedure to be performed. Explain the equipment and what to expect during the scan. Instructs patient on necessary requirements needed during the testing to provide diagnostic images.

Technologist - Job Description Page 2 8. Obtain medical history from patient. Screens patients for MRI appropriateness and reviews any contraindications for exams including implants, metallic devices, or other foreign objects, which would prohibit or modify the MRI exam. 9. Discuss any unusual findings with the Radiologist to determine if standard sequences, parameters, etc. need to be modified for the patient to be scanned. Document changes in protocol in patient's chart. 10. If the referring healthcare provider has ordered the scan to be done with contrast, review the form, "Informed Consent - MRI Scan with Intravenous Contrast Injection." Make sure the patient has never had an adverse reaction to MRI contrast in past. Follow all policy and procedures on giving MRI contrast. 11. Confirm that the patient or the patient's family understands the procedure and has no more questions by asking if there are any more questions. Continue to answer questions that the patient or their family member may have until they confirm by stating they have no more questions. 12. Position patient for MRI exam using immobilization and protective equipment as required. 13. Performs MRI exam using approved protocols while monitoring the patient's condition and reporting any abnormal issues to the radiologist on duty. 14. Evaluate MRI exam for technical quality. Repeat any sequences if necessary. 15. Demonstrates proficient use of PACS and performs image QA. 16. Performs equipment quality control checks and troubleshoots problems. Identify malfunction of equipment and report any issues to immediate supervisor. 17. Maintains a clean and safe environment inside and outside of the MRI exam room, ensuring the safety to patients, staff, and visitors. 18. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

1. Must be registered with ARRT or be registry eligible and obtain registry status within 18 months of hire. 2. Must have 2-3 years' experience as an MRI Technologist. 3. Basic Life Support trained within 90 days of hire date. 4. Must be able to interact with patients, co-workers, and healthcare team members in an autonomous, responsible, professional, and ethical manner.
