Job Description
Position Summary The MA/Rad Tech is responsible for operating mobile C-arm fluoroscopy equipment during surgical and interventional procedures to deliver high-quality, real-time imaging. Working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff in the operating room, the technologist ensures the safe and efficient flow of each case by following strict radiation-protection protocols, maintaining sterile technique, and troubleshooting equipment issues as they arise. The role requires constant collaboration and clear communication to help the clinical team achieve optimal patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities In the clinical setting, the technologist positions patients accurately and adjusts technical factors―such as kVp, mA, pulse rate, and dose―to obtain diagnostic images while minimizing radiation exposure. They verify image quality, annotate studies, and promptly transfer images to the facility's PACS or electronic medical record. Radiation safety is a core duty; the technologist applies ALARA principles, documents exposures, and performs routine quality-assurance checks in accordance with Texas Administrative Code § 289.227. Infection-control measures and sterile technique are maintained at all times, including thorough disinfection of equipment between cases. Daily equipment management includes performing warm-ups and calibrations, recognizing malfunctions, and initiating service requests through biomedical engineering or vendors to minimize downtime. Patient-care responsibilities involve confirming identity and consent, explaining the imaging process, ensuring comfort, and safely positioning immobilization devices or administering contrast when required. Throughout each procedure, the technologist anticipates imaging needs, responds quickly to surgeon directions, and communicates effectively with the multidisciplinary team. Accurate documentation—covering imaging logs, charge capture, licensure information, and compliance with ARRT, HIPAA, and facility policies—is an essential part of the workflow. Qualifications Candidates must hold current certification in Radiography (R) from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as well as a Texas Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) license in good standing. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is preferred for interventional environments. A graduate-level education from an accredited radiologic technology program—either an associate degree or certificate—is mandatory, and additional coursework in fluoroscopy or surgical imaging is highly desirable. Applicants should present at least one year of hands-on experience operating C-arm or fluoroscopic equipment in a surgical, cath-lab, or pain-management setting; two to three years is preferred, especially with orthopedics, spine, vascular, or pain-management cases. Proficiency with major C-arm platforms such as GE/OEC, Philips, or Siemens, as well as familiarity with
