Job Summary Under the direction of physicians, the casual Radiologic Technologist operates digital X-ray equipment to perform diagnostic imaging procedures. This position requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care in a clinical setting. The individual will perform in a manner consistent with Stevens Point Orthopedics' mission, policies, and initiatives while always adhering to the highest standards of patient confidentiality, safety, and professionalism. This casual position is 7-8 hours per week (Fridays), with the possibility of additional hours certain weeks based on staffing coverage needs. Essential Job Functions Prepares and positions patients safely and accurately for radiologic procedures, ensuring their comfort and using proper body mechanics to obtain high-quality diagnostic images. Operates digital X-ray equipment to obtain quality diagnostic images, using proper positioning, immobilization, shielding techniques, and selecting appropriate ionizing factors. Adjusts and sets radiographic controls, checks images for clarity, and identifies interpretable quality radiographs. Loads studies into the office PACS system, imports outside studies, downloads exams onto discs for patients and requesting facilities, and utilizes medical office software systems with a basic understanding of medical terminology and office procedures. Protects patients, self, and staff from radiation hazards by following established safety protocols. Follows infection control procedures, maintains a clean and orderly radiology room, and adheres to sterile techniques, universal precautions, and OSHA standards to ensure a safe environment for both patients and staff. Cleans, maintains, and performs minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, coordinates with manufacturing representatives for quality control checks and equipment repairs. Maintains radiographic supplies and orders additional items as necessary. Accurately bills patient exams and performs clerical duties, including maintaining required patient records. Greets patients, answers phones, and provides a caring, professional attitude in all patient interactions. Complies with all organizational and safety standards. Additional Job Functions Extensive knowledge of X-ray procedures, radiology equipment, safety protocols, and relevant anatomy for accurate patient positioning and imaging. Strong computer, phone, clerical, and office automation skills; ability to follow written instructions and standardized work practices. Physically able to stand, walk, stoop, bend, and assist with patient transfers for extended periods (6-8 hours/day). Job Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program is required; an associate degree in radiologic technology is preferred. Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Licensed by the State of Wisconsin to perform radiography. One to three years of experience as an X-ray technologist, preferably in an orthopedic practice setting. CPR certification and AED training required. Experience with Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) required. Proficiency using phones and medical practice management software in a medical office environment.
