Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Activities Coordinator develops, organizes, and facilitates recreational, social, educational, cultural, and therapeutic activities for residents in a congregate living setting. The coordinator works to encourage resident participation, independence, social interaction, and overall quality of life while ensuring activities are appropriate for residents' abilities and interests.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and maintain a monthly activities calendar based on residents' interests, needs, and abilities.
- Lead individual and group activities, including games, arts and crafts, music, exercise, movies, and social events.
- Encourage residents to participate while respecting individual preferences and independence.
- Adapt activities for residents with different physical, cognitive, or functional abilities.
- Coordinate special events, holidays, birthdays, celebrations, and community outings.
- Build positive relationships with residents and promote a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Maintain activity supplies, equipment, schedules, and attendance records.
- Communicate with caregivers, facility staff, families, and community organizations regarding resident activities.
- Observe and report changes in residents' participation, behavior, or needs to appropriate staff.
- Follow facility policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Recruit and coordinate volunteers or outside activity providers when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate documentation of activities and resident participation.
- Assist with creating a safe, clean, and organized activity environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by facility management.
- All other job duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in recreation, social services, gerontology, or a related field is a plus. Previous experience working with seniors, adults with disabilities, or residents in a residential care setting preferred. Strong communication, organization, creativity, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying abilities. Ability to pass required background checks and meet facility employment requirements.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move activity materials. Ability to assist with setting up and breaking down activities. Ability to safely interact with and support residents within the limits of the position.SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet regulatory timelines in a dynamic setting
- Working knowledge of applicable Title 22 regulations, facility policies, resident rights, safety requirements, and other regulations relevant to providing activities in a congregate living environment.
- Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents, staff, and visitors based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The position is based in a Congregate Living Health Facility (CLHF), and the activities coordinator will be exposed to a variety of medical conditions, including infectious diseases, physical strain, and emotional stress.
- Must be willing to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by the needs of the facility.
