Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Vernon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, a 5-star rated facility, is seeking a part-time Therapeutic Recreation Aide to join our Special Care Unit. As a Therapeutic Recreation Aide, you will play a crucial role in implementing a therapeutic recreation program that improves the quality of life for our residents. If you're passionate about making a difference in people's lives and have experience working with individuals with dementia and special memory care units, we encourage you to apply.
Responsibilities:
Assist with the planning and implementation of group activities designed to motivate, stimulate, and improve the quality of life for facility residents Conduct one-on-one individualized activities and sensory stimulation for residents who do not actively participate in group activities Document resident participation and progress Assist with supply inventory, planning of purchases for the department, and organization of activities Assist with the transportation of residents to areas where programs are being conducted Conduct assessments of new admissions, documenting historical interests, hobbies, and abilities, as well as current limitations, prognosis, and family expectations Implement required programs, maintain thorough records, and support resident progress with activities of daily living and other restorative programs
Requirements:
Certified as a Therapeutic Recreation Director in accordance with the regulations of the Connecticut Public Health Code Ability to read, write, and comprehend English; ability to follow oral and written instructions Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of word processing (including Microsoft Office) and other office equipment helpful Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment
Schedule:
Part-time position requiring coverage of specific hours: 9 am to 5 pm every Friday and every other Saturday and Sunday How to
