A Recreational Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Job Description

At Freedom Behavioral Hospital of Ferriday, we prioritize exceptional patient care — and that starts with exceptional people. We are currently seeking a Recreational Therapist (CTRS) to join our Clinical Services Department. This non-exempt position reports directly to the Director of Clinical Social Services and plays a key role in providing therapeutic activities that support patients' emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver a full range of recreational therapy services, including assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions, in accordance with professional standards and ethical guidelines. Plan, schedule, and lead activities designed to improve leisure skills, socialization, physical fitness, cognitive functioning, and creativity (e.g., arts and crafts, exercise, group activities). Collaborate with the interdisciplinary clinical team to support each patient's overall psychosocial needs. Track patient participation, monitor progress, and document therapeutic outcomes accurately and timely. Facilitate and document individual and group therapy sessions, ensuring detailed, compliant clinical notes. Participate in psychiatric medication management meetings with patients and psychiatrists as needed. Observe and provide feedback on patient engagement during activities, adjusting plans as necessary to meet individualized goals.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy, physiology, psychology, human anatomy, CTRS, or a related experienced. Strong documentation skills and attention to detail. Ability to engage with diverse patient populations with compassion, creativity, and professionalism. Team-oriented mindset with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
