A Recreational Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Grade 8- $40,975�(with potential growth up to $64,627)\r\n

Volunteer Activities Coordinator is the full level of work developing and planning a comprehensive volunteer services program in a State facility.��Additionally, the incumbent directs and supervises the activities of all volunteers and educates the community to the need for volunteers and volunteer programs for the facilities. Employees in this classification supervise may lead support staff, students and volunteers assigned to the volunteer activities program.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe duties include, but are not limited to:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nPLANNING & DIRECTINGVOLUNTEER PROGRAMS
�\r\n- Recruits, trains and supervises volunteers, interns, staff and volunteer visitors who enter the facilities, including but not limited to conducting background checks, interviews, coordination of paperwork, preparing entries and providing security and program orientation.\r\n
- Recruitments and coordinates student interns including ongoing contact between agencies and college liaison.\r\n
- Gives amendment recommendations for volunteer directives and processes and establishes volunteer handouts to provide guidance to new volunteers.\r\n
- Serves as point of contact for initial volunteers' complaint, issues, and inquires.
ADMINISTRATIVE
DUTIES\r\n- Handles special administrative assignments for the facility and outside agencies requiring knowledge of regulations, policies, institutional procedures and program goals.\r\n
- Serves on committees to design evaluative tools, review policies or develop initiatives using sound management and industry practices\r\n
- Prepares periodic performance evaluations of volunteers\r\n
- Writes reports, correspondence, newsletters and other documents regarding volunteer programs\r\n\r\n

Graduation from an\r\naccredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\nExperience:
One year of\r\nexperience involving planning, coordinating, and evaluating volunteer\r\nactivities.\r\nNotes:
\r\n1. Candidates may substitute 30\r\ncredits of education at an accredited college or university on a year-for-year\r\nbasis for the required experience.\r\n2. Candidates may substitute\r\nplanning, coordinating, and evaluating volunteer activities experience for the\r\nrequired education at the rate of one year of experience for one year of\r\neducation.\r\nVolunteer Activities\r\nCoordinator II\r\nEducation:
Graduation from an\r\naccredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\nExperience:
Two years of\r\nexperience involving planning, coordinating, and evaluating volunteer\r\nactivities.\r\nNotes:

Candidates may substitute\r\nplanning, coordinating, and evaluating volunteer activities experience for the\r\nrequired education at the rate of one year of experience for one year of\r\neducation.\r\nDESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\n\r\nPreference will be given to\r\napplicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear\r\nand specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.\r\n\r\n\r\n1. Willing to attend the Academy�\r\n2. One year experience working with incarcerated individuals�\r\n3. Experience planning, coordinating, and evaluating volunteer activities\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nLICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS 1.
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. \r\n2. Employees�in this classification may be required to successfully complete training and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. \r\nSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
\r\n1. The ideal candidate must be fluent in spoken and written English. The\r\nideal candidate must effectively and respectfully communicate with diverse\r\npopulations, providing services to individuals with different beliefs,\r\nbehaviors, and interpersonal styles in confinement or community settings.\r\nProfessional working fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or any other\r\nlanguage is a plus.\r\n2. The incumbent is required to\r\nobtain Maryland Correctional Training Commission Certification in accordance\r\nwith COMAR Title 12, Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services,\r\nSubtitle 10, Correctional Training Commission.\r\n\r\n3. Employees in this classification will be required to\r\nprovide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.\r\n\r\nSELECTION PROCESS
