Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

Job Description

Join our Growing Team! The Behavioral Center of Michigan (BCOM) is a psychiatric care facility located in Warren, Michigan. The entire staff at the Behavioral Center of Michigan/Samaritan Behavioral Center is dedicated to high standards of personal care for adults 18 years and older suffering from acute psychiatric conditions. Our team works together closely to provide professional, compassionate treatment to each person admitted to the hospital. Our programs are led by a staff of psychiatrists, consulting physicians, doctors of psychology, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, social workers, recreational therapists, mental health technicians, and other necessary support staff members. Job Tasks The CTRS is responsible for the provision of Recreation Therapy services, including assessment, treatment planning/review, therapeutic activity interventions and discharge leisure planning. The CTRS utilizes individual and/or group activity interventions to improve cognitive, physical, social, and psychosocial functioning in adults needing psychiatric care. The therapist works with client to develop healthy coping mechanisms, stress/anger management techniques, increased self awareness, and explore positive leisure pursuits. The CTRS will provide the client with leisure resources to assist in post-discharge leisure planning and involvement. The therapist will be responsible for the provision of services according to the current standards of practice. Minimum qualifications Bachelor Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an approved program; Certification by National Certification Board (NCTRC). Experience in psychiatric setting (preferred). Basic computer skills; ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing; additional languages preferred. Onboarding We welcome entry level therapists. Every new CTRS will spend 5 days in our orientation process. After our hospital orientation, you will have the opportunity to go through the department orientation process. This includes several days of observing and learning the work flow of our job tasks.
