A Recreational Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving movement, sports, games, and other activities for brain stimulation. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.

This position is located within a secure correctional facility. Candidates must be comfortable working in a secure environment and meeting all facility and pre-employment requirements.Recreational Therapist Responsibilities:
Plan, coordinate, and facilitate individual and group recreational therapy activities, including yoga, calisthenics, board games, sports, crafts, sewing, painting, cooking, and other therapeutic activities. Assess individual needs through observation, review of documentation, and functional assessments. Develop and adapt recreational therapy activities to support individual therapeutic goals. Facilitate structured individual and group recreational therapy sessions. Maintain therapeutic materials, equipment, and program supplies. Accurately document therapy sessions and activities in the electronic medical record (EMR). Monitor participant progress and modify activities as appropriate. Communicate and collaborate with facility staff and other members of the care team.Recreational Therapist Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy Current Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification- Required Valid BLS certification
- Required Minimum 2 years of recreational therapy experience
- Required Ability to design and adapt therapeutic activities to meet individual needs. Experience facilitating individual and group therapy sessions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
