An Activities Director oversees the therapeutic and recreational activities for geriatric groups. They may work in a retirement home, nursing home, senior center or healthcare setting.
Events is a growing youth sports event provider based in the Charlotte area. We operate basketball and volleyball tournaments, leagues, showcases, camps, and other competitive events throughout North and South Carolina. As our volleyball calendar continues to expand, we are looking for an experienced volleyball professional to lead the day-of operation of our volleyball tournaments.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Volleyball Tournament Director will serve as the lead tournament director during RISE Events volleyball tournaments. This is currently an event-based position, with the majority of the work taking place on tournament days. The Volleyball Tournament Director will be responsible for managing the complete on-site operation, leading the event staff, communicating with coaches and officials, monitoring the schedule, entering results, and handling issues that arise throughout the tournament. Some preparation and communication may be required during the week leading into each event. The amount of preparation will depend on the size and needs of the tournament. We are looking for someone who understands club volleyball and can confidently take ownership of a multi-court event without requiring constant direction. 2026-27 EVENT DATES Applicants should be available for the following tournament dates: December 12, 2026 January 9, 2027 January 30, 2027 February 20-21, 2027 March 13-14, 2027 Additional event dates may be added as the RISE Events volleyball calendar continues to grow.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Tournament-Day Leadership Serve as the lead tournament director and primary on-site decision-maker Arrive before doors open to oversee tournament setup and staff preparation Confirm that courts, tables, signage, staff stations, and event systems are ready Lead the tournament-day staff and clearly communicate assignments and expectations Conduct a brief staff meeting before the start of the event Oversee team and coach check-in Coordinate with officials, facility staff, athletic trainers, vendors, and other event partners Monitor match schedules and keep courts running as close to the published times as possible Enter and verify match results in AES Update brackets and communicate schedule changes when necessary Monitor court assignments, work teams, officiating responsibilities, and overall match flow Respond to questions from coaches, officials, staff members, and facility representatives Address delays, team issues, score discrepancies, injuries, staffing concerns, and other unexpected situations Enforce RISE Events and facility policies consistently Maintain a professional and visible leadership presence throughout the tournament Ensure the event staff provides a welcoming, organized, and professional experience Oversee event breakdown and confirm that the facility is left in proper condition Provide RISE Events leadership with a summary of any incidents, concerns, or recommended changes
EVENT PREPARATION
Preparation responsibilities may vary based on the size and needs of each tournament and may include: Reviewing tournament schedules, pools, brackets, and facility layouts Reviewing participating teams and age divisions Confirming staff assignments and tournament-day responsibilities Reviewing event policies and coach communication Participating in pre-event planning meetings or calls Confirming that tournament supplies, signage, and operational materials are ready Becoming familiar with special circumstances, facility considerations, or scheduling needs This position will not initially be responsible for weekday team recruitment, sales, marketing, or building tournament schedules unless separately discussed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience in club volleyball, tournament operations, athletic administration, or a related area Strong understanding of club volleyball rules, formats, work teams, pools, and bracket play Experience using AES is strongly preferred Experience as a tournament director, site director, club director, coach, or volleyball administrator is preferred Ability to independently manage a multi-court volleyball tournament Strong leadership and problem-solving skills Clear and professional communication Ability to remain calm and make decisions in a fast-paced environment Organized, dependable, and attentive to detail Comfortable leading staff and holding team members accountable Able to communicate professionally with coaches, officials, parents, staff members, and facility representatives Available to work early mornings and extended tournament-day shifts Able to travel to event locations throughout North and South Carolina when required Comfortable using email, Google Workspace, spreadsheets, and event-management platforms
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Experience operating volleyball tournaments with eight or more courts Experience entering scores and managing brackets through AES Familiarity with Carolina Region Volleyball Existing relationships within the North Carolina or South Carolina volleyball community Experience managing tournament staff, officials, facilities, or vendors
SCHEDULE
This is a part-time, event-based position. The majority of working hours will take place during the five scheduled tournament weekends listed above. Tournament days may require early-morning arrival and extended shifts based on the event schedule. Additional preparation and communication may be required during the week leading into an event.
GROWTH OPPORTUNITY RISE
Events is continuing to expand its volleyball calendar, and this position has the potential to grow into a larger role as additional events are added. A successful Volleyball Tournament Director may have the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities involving event planning, scheduling, staffing, club communication, tournament development, and other areas of the volleyball operation. As the calendar and workload grow, this event-based position could develop into a more consistent role with additional hours and responsibilities. The long-term opportunity may include helping lead the overall direction and continued development of the RISE Events volleyball division. We are looking for someone who can successfully lead our current tournament-day operations while also having an interest in growing alongside RISE Events.
COMPENSATION
Compensation will be based on experience and the size and length of each event. Additional compensation may be provided for approved preparation and responsibilities completed outside of tournament days.
