Full Job Description Job Description- PT Activities Coordinator/Recreation Therapist The Coffee House Program Organization:
Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey is seeking a part-time Activities Coordinator/Recreation Therapist for the Coffee House, an innovative and engaging social adult day program serving adults living with early to moderate memory loss due to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. The Activities Coordinator plays an essential role in creating a warm, stimulating, and supportive environment that promotes social connection, cognitive engagement, creativity, independence, and quality of life for program participants. Responsibilities with Participants
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and facilitating a dynamic therapeutic recreation and socialization program designed to meet the varying needs, abilities, interests, and strengths of participants.
  • Help Program Director design and develop the monthly recreational and programming schedule, ensuring a balanced variety of cognitive, social, physical, creative, educational and recreational activities.
  • Develop and facilitate engaging, intellectually stimulating, and interactive programs, incorporating thought-provoking questions, discussions, debates, quizzes, reminiscence, music, current events, games, exercise, and other appropriate cognitive and recreational activities.
  • Create and provide unique, educational, and meaningful programs that encourage social interaction, creativity, and cognitive stimulation.
  • Plan and facilitate a monthly creative arts/craft project, adapting activities as needed to accommodate varying abilities and levels of participation.
  • Build positive relationships with participants and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that promotes friendship, belonging, self-esteem, and meaningful engagement.
  • Exercise sound judgment in determining and implementing appropriate precautions to ensure the health, safety, dignity, and well-being of participants.
  • Serve as the lead facilitator of program leader when the Program Director is not present, ensuring continuity of programming, participant support, and necessary administrative and clinical responsibilities. Administrative, Leadership & Outreach Responsibilities
  • Maintain organized, well-stocked, and replenished program supplies and ensure that materials are readily available for daily programming.
  • When the Program Director is absent, assume primary responsibility for the program, including:
  • Taking and maintaining daily attendance
  • Addressing participant needs and concerns
  • Completing required incident reports and documentation
  • Communicating and following up with caregivers as needed
  • Completing necessary clinical and administrative documentation
  • Coordinating daily program operations
  • Supervise, coordinate and provide direction to substitute activity staff, volunteers and interns as needed to enhance programming and provide additional support to participants.
  • Participate in community outreach and marketing efforts to promote The Coffee House and increase awareness of the program and its services.
  • Accurately document outreach and marketing activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision, professional development, and required trainings.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Program Director, nursing staff, social work staff, caregivers, volunteers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or a related field preferred.
. Knowledge, skills, experience, and demonstrated use of best practices in therapeutic recreation, particularly with older adults and individuals living with dementia. . Strong interest in and commitment to working with adults, caregivers, and individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
  • Enthusiasm and creativity in developing and facilitating stimulating, meaningful, and innovative activities and programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with team members, participants, families, volunteers, and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Part-time Schedule:
21 hours per week / 3 days per week Expected hours: This position is 7 hours per day, 21 hours per week. Work hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm including a lunch break. The program schedule is Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10:00 am to 3:00pm.
Pay:
$25.00 - $28.00 per hour Expected hours: 21.0 per week
