Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking an energetic and dedicated Director of Activities to lead engaging, meaningful, and enriching programs for our senior residents. In this vital role, you will design, coordinate, and oversee a diverse range of recreational activities that promote social interaction, mental stimulation, physical wellness, and overall well-being. Your leadership will foster a vibrant community environment where residents feel valued, connected, and empowered to enjoy their daily lives to the fullest. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on seniors' lives while demonstrating your expertise in activity planning and senior care. Duties Develop and implement a comprehensive activity program tailored to residents' interests, abilities, and care needs, including memory care and dementia-specific activities Coordinate resident events such as social gatherings, educational workshops, recreational outings, and themed celebrations to foster community engagement Lead and supervise activity staff and volunteers, providing training in recreational therapy techniques and person-centered care approaches Build strong rapport with residents through personalized interactions, understanding individual preferences and capabilities Manage scheduling of activities to ensure consistent participation and smooth operation of daily programs Collaborate with nursing staff, caregivers, and family members to integrate activities into individual care plans and address specific needs Maintain detailed records of resident participation, progress notes, and activity outcomes for documentation and regulatory compliance Requirements Proven experience in event planning within assisted living facilities or nursing homes, with a focus on senior care or geriatrics Strong background in recreational therapy, memory care, Alzheimer's care, or dementia-specific programming Excellent communication skills for engaging residents, families, staff, and community partners effectively Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, scheduling, and program development purposes Demonstrated leadership skills in team management and staff training within senior living or healthcare settings
Education/Qualifications:
Must be a certified therapeutic recreational therapist, CTRS through NCTRC; or an Activity Director Certified, ADC through NCCAP; or a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA who is certified through the state in which the community is located. Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation or related field is preferred but not required. Must have, as a minimum, two (2) years of experience in a social or recreation program within the last five (5) years and prefer one (1) of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting as a director. Pay:
$25.00 - $27.00 per hour
