MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Memory Care Director participates in the design of a creative and exciting life enrichment program to meet the individual needs and interests of the community. Under the direction of the Memory Care Director plans monthly life enrichment calendar for Memory Care Unit; includes providing one-to-one programming for individuals who cannot participate in a group setting. Trains other staff on the Celebrating the Individual program. Directs and assists residents as needed; directs and assists residents to dining room, assists with seating, serving food, serving beverages, salads, etc., as needed. Serves as an advocate for resident rights and choice. Maintains confidentiality of resident care and issues. Strictly practices universal precautions, handwashing and general hygienic principles. Education and Experience 3 to 5 years of experience working in a memory care unit. Knowledge, skills and abilities Knowledge of care for elderly persons with various acute and/or chronic health problems and/or dementia. Knowledge, understanding and compassion for human behavior and the ability to relate this to the care of aged, infirm, acutely and chronically ill residents. Ability to project credibility and assertiveness, and the ability to make mature judgments. Knowledge of the organization, function, policies, procedures and regulations of the facility, and the ability to apply these with professionalism. Ability to identify and anticipate the needs of residents and staff, and to intervene or refer to the proper authority as appropriate. Knowledge of resident rights and the ability to respond to each resident with empathy and respect. Knowledge of policies, procedures, philosophies, rules and regulations governing the delivery of services to consumers. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other departments, and consumers. Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with consumers, visitors and staff. This job description should not be interpreted as all-inclusive.
