An Activities Director oversees the therapeutic and recreational activities for geriatric groups. They may work in a retirement home, nursing home, senior center or healthcare setting.

Activities Director Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Activities Director, you are responsible for providing the highest quality of care in our 117-bed facility to our residents in a family-like environment. You will help plan events for physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, educational, or social activities in a variety of settings to provide socialization and enjoyment to all residents.
Qualifications:
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED Certificate. Previous long-term care experience preferred but not required. Flexibility and creativity to meet the needs of the residents.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning and facilitating daily, weekly, and monthly events to encourage socialization, relaxation, and recreation to the needs of individuals, and group activities to bring residents, families, and friends together. Work co-operatively with staff, service providers, and volunteers to meet resident and family needs. Monitor resident behaviors and changes in condition during activities, reporting those changes to the Activities Director, RN Supervisor, and LPN on resident hall. Helping and encouraging resident to actively take part in activities. Assist in providing one to one visit for residents. Provide materials to residents to promote independent leisure or diversional activities. Transport residents to and from activities. Set-up and clean the activity area as necessary. Provide oversight of residents and volunteers during off-site outings. Observe residents at events to gauge their enjoyment and obtain their feedback to improve events.
Specific Requirements:
Must be able to work as a team. Must be able to read and write the English language. Must possess excellent oral and strong written communication skills. Must possess excellent time management, organizational, and multitasking skills to complete daily tasks. Must possess kindness, compassion, and patience for our residents and their families.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Must be able to work independently.
