Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Life Enrichment Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing engaging programs and events that promote the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of residents in an assisted living and memory care community. This individual will create a vibrant environment that enhances the quality of life for residents while ensuring programs are tailored to their needs, abilities, and interests. The ideal candidate is compassionate, creative, and highly organized, with a passion for serving seniors, including those with cognitive impairments.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development and Management:
Design and implement a diverse calendar of activities, events, and outings that promote wellness, social interaction, and cognitive stimulation. Develop specialized programs tailored to residents in memory care, considering their unique abilities and preferences. Incorporate physical exercise, arts and crafts, music, games, cultural activities, and intergenerational events into programming. Continuously evaluate and adapt activities to meet residents' evolving needs and feedback. Other duties as assigned.
Resident Engagement:
Build relationships with residents to understand their interests, preferences, and abilities. Encourage and support resident participation in activities, addressing any barriers to involvement. Facilitate group and one-on-one activities to accommodate diverse engagement levels.
Team Leadership:
Supervise and train activity staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative and enthusiastic team environment. Delegate responsibilities and ensure activities are executed efficiently and effectively. Conduct regular staff meetings to plan and review programming.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with the executive director, care staff, and families to coordinate care and support for residents. Serve as a liaison between residents, families, and the community to promote participation and address concerns. Communicate upcoming events and programs through newsletters, calendars, and community announcements.
Compliance and Record-Keeping:
Ensure all activities comply with state and federal regulations for assisted living and memory care communities. Maintain accurate records of attendance, resident participation, and program evaluations. Stay current with best practices and trends in senior and dementia care programming.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage the activities department budget, ensuring cost-effective programming. Source and maintain supplies and equipment necessary for planned activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in recreation therapy, gerontology, social work, or a related field or equivalent experience. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in activity planning, preferably in a senior living or memory care setting. Certification in therapeutic recreation (CTRS) or activities (AP-BC or ADC) is a plus. Strong understanding of dementia and Alzheimer's disease, including effective engagement strategies. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Creative and energetic personality with a passion for enriching the lives of seniors. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others. Proficiency with technology for creating materials and managing schedules. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and assist residents with mobility, if needed.
Work Environment:
This role operates within an assisted living/memory care community, including indoor and outdoor environments. Some evening, weekend, and holiday hours are required to support resident activities and special events. Emory Mills Senior Living is an equal opportunity employer.
