Activities Coordinator Reports To:
Regional Director/Executive Director/CRM Position Overview The Activities Coordinator is responsible for developing and leading a comprehensive activity program that enhances the quality of life, independence, and engagement of residents in an Assisted Living setting. The Activities Coordinator ensures that all programs are designed with safety, supervision, and resident capability in mind. The role supports residents with higher care needs while promoting dignity, purpose, and meaningful daily structure. Key Responsibilities Program Development & Delivery Plan and implement a monthly activity calendar with a diverse selection of social, recreational, physical, cognitive, sensory, and spiritual activities appropriate for the resident population. Create a monthly calendar and post within the community as well given to the residents. Modify activities to meet individual needs, including residents with dementia, mobility challenges, and behavioral symptoms. Design activities for residents unable to participate in group settings to create alternative options. Facilitate daily structured programming to meet state requirements and community standards. Organize special events, holiday celebrations, family functions, and community outings when applicable with transportation. (with appropriate staffing and safety planning). Manage activity supplies, equipment, and budgets responsibly. Resident Assessment & Engagement Complete resident interest profiles, abilities assessments, and ongoing evaluations to ensure person-centered programming. Monitor resident participation and document engagement, mood, safety concerns, and changes in functional status. Collaborate with nursing, direct care staff, and leadership to support residents with increased supervision or behavioral needs. Safety Compliance Implement safety protocols for residents requiring assistance during group activities, outdoor events, and community outings. Maintain awareness of residents who need support with ambulation, transfers, redirection, or exit-seeking behaviors. Ensure proper staffing is on hand when necessary to complete the activity. Assist with emergency drills and evacuation procedures. Community Engagement Coordinate volunteers, entertainers, and partnerships with local organizations, churches, schools, and civic groups. Promote intergenerational and community involvement when safe for residents. Additional Support Duties Provide support during meal times, special events, or resident supervision as needed. Assist with transporting residents to and from activities when transportation is available. Participate in staff training, safety meetings, and HHSC compliance reviews. Qualifications Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred:
coursework or degree in recreation therapy, social services, gerontology, dementia care, or related field. Experience working with seniors, dementia care, or assisted living. Skills & Competencies Strong ability to engage and motivate residents with varying levels of function. Knowledge of dementia-friendly and adaptive activities. Excellent communication, patience, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with nursing and caregiving teams. Strong organizational, planning, and time-management abilities. Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, scheduling or electronic documentation software). Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and assist residents during activities if needed. Ability to stand, walk, bend, push wheelchairs, and accompany residents safely. Work Schedule Flexible schedule with availability for some evenings, weekends, and holidays to support events and resident needs.
