About Rec Life LLC Rec Life LLC is seeking an experienced and passionate Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) to join our network of qualified professionals as an Independent Contractor Recreational Therapy Consultant. As a contracted consultant, you will provide specialized recreational therapy consultation services to individuals receiving Virginia Developmental Disability (DD) Waiver services. You will independently manage your assigned service responsibilities while partnering with individuals, families, caregivers, support coordinators, and other members of the individual's support team.

Responsibilities Assessment and Evaluation:

Review relevant information and consult with the individual, family members, caregivers, and members of the individual's support team. Identify barriers and opportunities related to recreational and leisure participation, community participation, social engagement, independence, and quality of life. Use professional judgment and recreational therapy expertise to identify appropriate therapeutic recommendations. Individualized Recreational Therapy Consultation Develop individualized recreational therapy recommendations aligned with the individual's needs and established ISP outcomes. Adapt activities and recommendations to accommodate needs across domains of development. Provide practical strategies that can be incorporated into the individual's daily routines and natural environments. Consultation and Collaboration Serve as a recreational therapy subject-matter resource to individuals, families, caregivers, direct support professionals, and other members of the support team. Collaborate with support coordinators and other professionals while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and independent clinical judgment. Provide consultation regarding implementation of recreational therapy strategies and opportunities for community inclusion. Training and Modeling Provide education, coaching, demonstration, and modeling related to recreational therapy strategies when appropriate to the scope of the contracted service. Demonstrate how recreational activities and strategies can be incorporated into everyday routines and community participation. Encourage caregivers and support staff to utilize support activities and training information to reinforce skill building and promote continued progress. Documentation and Professional Accountability Complete required assessments, consultation documentation, support plans/recommendations, progress documentation, quarterly reports, and discharge documentation within established timelines. Maintain documentation that accurately reflects services provided and recommendations made. Maintain confidentiality and protect the privacy of individuals receiving services. Maintain all required professional credentials, licenses, certifications, insurance, and other documentation applicable to independent practice.

What We're Looking For:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Recreational Therapy/Therapeutic Recreation or a closely related field. Current CTRS credential through NCTRC — required. Minimum 3 years of professional recreational therapy experience preferred. Experience serving individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities strongly preferred. Experience with Virginia DD Waiver services, Medicaid-funded services, community-based services, or home-based consultation preferred. Strong knowledge of recreational therapy principles, leisure assessment, activity analysis, adaptive recreation, person-centered planning, and evidence-informed practice. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to translate clinical recommendations into practical strategies for individuals, families, and support teams. Strong organization, documentation, time-management, and follow-through skills. Ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgment. Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to assigned individuals within the agreed-upon service area.

Independent Contractor Structure:

This is an independent contractor opportunity, not a W-2 employment position. The selected professional will enter into a contractor agreement with Rec Life LLC and will be responsible for independently performing contracted services in accordance with applicable laws, professional standards, contractual requirements, and program requirements.

The contractor will:

Maintain professional autonomy in the delivery of contracted recreational therapy consultation services. Coordinate availability and service scheduling with individuals and support teams as appropriate. Manage assigned responsibilities and service-related deadlines independently. Provide services within the contractor's professional scope, qualifications, and credentialing. Maintain required professional credentials and documentation. Submit required documentation and invoices according to Rec Life LLC procedures. Be responsible for applicable federal, state, and local taxes associated with independent contractor status. Maintain any professional liability coverage, business registrations, or other requirements applicable to independent practice, as specified in the contractor agreement.
