JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary This position is located in the Bluefield Fitness & Recreation Center, which maintains and provides parks, recreation facilities and programs for the public. This position performs professional and administrative functions overseeing, directing and supervising staff; budgetary duties; policy formulation; and project oversight, does other related work as required. Will work with community boards on city events. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Preparation of budget Plan and implement indoor and outdoor recreation programs Oversee operation of City FitRec Center and Mitchell Stadium Provide support to Lotito City Park Oversee and schedule staff Deliver direct customer service with members, guests and event attendees Oversee and enforce institution policies, procedures, controls and fee structures Ensure and maintain a safe environment for all users and visitors Creation of the marketing and promotion of recreation services Provide accurate and timely communications with recreation groups Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned as needed Requirements Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in Sports and Recreation Management, Sports Facility Management, Parks and Recreation Management, or a related discipline Five years of management experience across diverse recreational areas, and a proven record of program growth, generating revenue and maintaining high service standards is preferred. The successful candidate will undergo a background check and drug screen Competencies Strong proficiency in, and knowledge of athletics, athletic facilities and services, and playing fields, courts and related maintenance Ability to lead staff with integrity and strong management skills Commitment to execute established strategies and action plans Strong interpersonal and employee relations skills Competency in developing and monitoring budgets Effective communication, public speaking and presentation skills Computer skills in MS Word, Excel and recreation related software programs Work Environment Most work will be performed at the Fitness and Recreation Center. The Director will work with a range of age groups including children and seniors. Youth summer programs are common activities. Some work in performed in an office setting, but often circulation throughout the facility, other city areas, or going outside to observe programs will be necessary.
