Representative Duties:

Under the direct supervision of the Specialty Nurse Manager, the job incumbent will be assigned from the following representative duties: Patient Assessment and Clinical Care 1. Perform nursing assessments and document findings accurately in the electronic health record. 2. Triage patient concerns, symptoms, and urgent clinical issues utilizing nursing judgment and established protocols. 3. Monitor patient progress and identify needs requiring provider intervention. 4. Assist with in-office procedures and provide nursing support during patient visits. 5. Administer medications, treatments, and vaccinations in accordance with provider orders and organizational policies. 6. Obtain and review vital signs, laboratory results, diagnostic testing, and other clinical information. Pre-Operative Care Coordination 1. Coordinate pre-operative assessments, diagnostic testing, and medical clearances. 2. Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, risks, benefits, expected outcomes, and recovery plans. 3. Ensure all required documentation, consents, and pre-operative requirements are complete prior to surgery. 4. Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, primary care providers, and specialty consultants to optimize patient readiness for surgery. Post-Operative Care 1. Conduct post-operative follow-up calls and assessments. 2. Evaluate patient recovery and identify complications requiring intervention. 3. Provide wound care education, medication instructions, and discharge reinforcement. 4. Assist patients with follow-up appointments, referrals, and ongoing treatment plans. Care Coordination and Communication 1. Serve as a primary point of contact for patients throughout the surgical process. 2. Coordinate referrals, consultations, diagnostic testing, and specialty services. 3. Communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and interdisciplinary team members. 4. Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and quality improvement initiatives. Documentation and Compliance 1. Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical records. 2. Follow established clinical protocols, infection prevention standards, and regulatory requirements. 3. Has responsibility for tasks that require a capacity for independent decision-making and timely follow-through. The employee completes four (4) out of the seven (7) areas of additional responsibility or professional development. The scope of work includes such activities as: a. Participates and/or completes performance improvement projects. b. Participates in and takes responsibility for quality initiatives. c. Takes on special project assignments such as reviewing, revising, and/or documenting procedures, work processes, or policies. d. Orients RNs, CMAs, CMA students, and other disciplines to the nursing roles and responsibilities. e. Serves as a preceptor/mentor for onboarding new nurses. f. Obtained additional certification/licensure beyond the requirements below (i.e., BLS instructor, IBCLC). g. Served on a committee at CAIHC for at least one (1) year. Leadership and Development 1. Demonstrate flexibility and composure in high-pressure or fast-paced environments. 2. Act as a resource and positive role model for team members. 3. Attend departmental meetings and contribute to operational improvements. 4. Provide coverage for the Specialty Nurse Manager as needed. Operations 1. Greet and escort patients; ensure seamless clinic flow during visits. 2. Assist with patient transport to ancillary departments as needed. 3. Monitor and maintain exam rooms and medical equipment; report repair needs. Quality and Compliance 1. Follows departments' regulatory standards for Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Care (AAAHC) and/or Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), including environment of care standards and infection control. 2. Participates in quality and compliance initiatives. Customer Service 1. Provides excellent customer service and participates in customer service initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

1. Alaska Native or American Indian Preferred. 2. Current and active RN license in the State of Alaska. 3. Associate degree in Nursing with seven (7) years of clinical experience or Bachelor's degree in Nursing with five (5) years of experience. Experience in ambulatory care is preferred. Experience in Ambulatory Surgery preferred. 4. Two (2) years of experience in the specialty. 5.

Certification:

Ambulatory Care or Surgery Nurse Certification. 6. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or equivalent. ACLS and PALS preferred. 7. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality. 8. Must pass a background check pursuant to the Federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act Requirement and State of Alaska background check.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Proficiency with patient assessments, medication administration, assisting with exams and treatments, and understanding and using medical terminology. 2. Ability to collect and use patient assessment data to assist in developing and evaluating patient plans of care. 3. Knowledge of standard safety and infection control practices. 4. Effective written and verbal communication skills. 5. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills for clinical decision-making. 6. Attention to detail in the monitoring of patient status and completion of accurate documentation. 7. Ability to educate patients and families about treatment options, medications, and aftercare. 8. Proficiency using healthcare technology, including electronic health records and patient monitoring equipment. 9. Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. 10. Dependability, promptness, motivation, and the ability to work on a multidisciplinary team, or independently with minimal supervision. 11. Strong affinity for team-based patient care and collaborative problem solving. 12. Proficiency with standard office equipment and PC based productivity software (Microsoft Office, Outlook, etc.). 13. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality, to interact effectively with patients and fellow staff, and to communicate clearly. 14. Excellent organizational skills for managing workflow and maintaining customer satisfaction.

Supervision:

This position has no supervisory responsibility but may be called upon to act on behalf of the Lead Nurse on a temporary, as-needed basis.

Supervision Physical demands:

Work requires walking, standing, and occasional lifting, bending, and pushing to assist patients, moving equipment, and issue supplies. Sedentary activities consist of sitting at a desk, typing, and computer operation. Knowledge of proper body mechanics and office ergonomics is required. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds routinely and a maximum of 50 pounds occasionally. Must be able to assist patients with safe transfers using appropriate body mechanics and/or equipment, including but not limited to from their vehicle to a wheelchair at TCC entrances. Incumbent must be able to work efficiently in a busy and sometimes stressful environment. Shared office space in a clinical setting.

Work environment:

Work is performed in a [clinic/inpatient] setting responsible for treating patients with a wide variety of medical problems. The employee may be exposed to communicable disease during performance of duties. Job incumbent may travel to remote locations by vehicle, small plane, boat, or alternate means of transportation. Some degree of risk is also present in working with substance use affected individuals and emotionally disturbed patients. There is risk of exposure to toxic chemical agents and other medications.
