Job Description
POSITION GOAL
To oversee the health-related activities of the school and assist with students' general health concerns.EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma required. Associate's Degree or higher in a health-related field preferred.PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Two (2) to three (3) years of experience working in a school office environment and/or in a health-related position with school-age children.ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with students' general health concerns and serve as a health advocate for students. Serve as the health liaison between the school, physicians, parents and the community. Provide direct care to sick and/or injured students utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and established school health protocols. Assess student health concerns and make appropriate referrals working with students, teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals as needed. Coordinate with contracted nursing/health-related services to ensure school is compliant with required federal and state laws and School District health protocols. Work with contracted nursing/health-related services personnel to schedule any mandatory health screenings at the school. Make referrals as necessary. Coordinate and oversee the management system for the administration of medications to students at the school. Administer medications to students per physician and/or dosing instructions. Record and update health concerns, medications, and emergency information in student files. Prepare medications for field trips. Collaborate with other professionals regarding implementation of health-related Individualized Education Plan (IEP) items. Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse and neglect. Communicate with the Principal and other staff on health-related or other school matters as necessary. Review and evaluate immunization records. Ensure that accurate and up-to-date health records are maintained on students as required. Order supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, the Colorado Department of Health, the Colorado Board of Education, the Jefferson County School District, and board policy in health services and office administration areas. Report potential health and safety hazards to the Principal immediately. Maintain confidentiality of all student records, including any and all health records, in accordance with federal and state laws and School District protocols.
