Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse at the Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research provides direct patient care, including administering treatments and educating patients about Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and other health conditions. This role involves conducting initial assessments in centers, assisting with appointment scheduling, and administering infusions as part of comprehensive patient care. The nurse is knowledgeable about evidence-based management of SCD and works collaboratively with the healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes. This position requires excellent clinical skills and a compassionate approach to patient care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Record patients' medical information and vital signs. Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects. Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records. Performing patient assessments and creating care plans to address individual needs. Administering therapeutic intravenous treatments. Monitoring for infusion complications and addressing issues with the medical team. Educating patients and their caregivers on proper IV-line maintenance. Attending monthly infection prevention meetings to advocate for patients and ensure facility practices are up-to-date. Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions. Provide health care, first aid, or immunizations. Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans. Direct or supervise less-skilled nursing or healthcare personnel. Monitor all aspects of patient care. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan or provide treatment. Advise medical personnel regarding healthcare issues. Evaluate patient outcomes to determine effectiveness of treatments. Maintain inventory of medical supplies or equipment. Prepare medical supplies or equipment for use. Assist healthcare practitioners during examinations or treatments. Prepare patients physically for medical procedures. Examine patients to assess general physical condition. Treat medical emergencies. Education and/or
Work Experience Requirements:
The candidate should hold a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) and be a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Florida. They should have at least 2-3 years of clinical experience, preferably with experience in hematology, chronic disease management, or a related area. Certification in infusion therapy or specialized training in SCD management is desirable.
