What they do
A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.

- + Leads clinical teams to ensure high patient and physician satisfaction and provides support through complex issues.
+ Administers effective distribution and utilization of personnel during shifts.
+ Uses critical thinking skills to coordinate and evaluate services rendered by all departments during shifts.
+ Implements actions to respond to the needs of patients and their families/support systems.
+ Keeps the Chief Nursing Officer and Administrator informed of circumstances with serious impact.
+ Identifies and communicates key issues and trends to leaders and makes recommendations for improvement.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of clinical practice standards to serve as a resource to staff.
+ Responds to emergent situations including code blue, trauma, code stroke, STEMI, and maternal or neonatal emergencies.
+ Carries out hospital and nursing policies, procedures, and standards.
+ Visits patient care units to assess patient conditions, evaluates staffing needs, and supports caregivers.
+ Assesses and reassesses pain, utilizes appropriate pain management techniques, and educates patients and families on pain management.
+ Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces medical errors.
