A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.
Registered Nurses (RN) - Per Diem Southern Winds Hospital is seeking experienced, compassionate, and dependable Registered Nurses to join our inpatient psychiatric nursing team. This position is ideal for nurses who are comfortable working in a fast-paced behavioral health environment and are committed to providing safe, therapeutic, and patient-centered care. Our nurses work closely with physicians, behavioral health technicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team to provide assessment, medication management, crisis intervention, patient education, and ongoing psychiatric care.

Weekend Availability Needed In This Role, You Will:
Assess, monitor, and provide nursing care to patients with acute psychiatric and behavioral health needs. Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, nursing standards, and hospital policies. Monitor patients for medication effectiveness, adverse reactions, and changes in physical or mental status. Complete nursing assessments, documentation, treatment records, and other required clinical documentation accurately and timely. Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, including appropriate nursing assessments and communication with providers. Obtain and monitor vital signs and recognize significant changes in a patient's condition. Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized treatment plans. Utilize therapeutic communication, active listening, verbal redirection, and appropriate de-escalation techniques. Implement crisis intervention and established safety measures when clinically indicated. Maintain appropriate observation and safety precautions for patients at risk for suicide, self-harm, elopement, aggression, or other safety concerns. Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment, diagnoses, patient rights and responsibilities, and healthy coping strategies. Promote and maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic milieu. Collaborate with physicians and members of the interdisciplinary treatment team regarding patient progress and changes in condition. Provide appropriate direction and supervision to Mental/Behavioral Health Technicians and other assigned staff within the RN's scope of practice. Assist physicians and other providers during examinations and treatments as necessary. Respond appropriately to psychiatric and medical emergencies. Maintain patient confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times. Follow hospital policies, infection-control practices, regulatory requirements, and established standards of nursing care. Float or rotate among appropriate inpatient units based on patient care and staffing needs.
What You'll Bring:
Current and active Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license . Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program. Minimum of one year of hospital experience required; psychiatric/behavioral health experience strongly preferred. Current BLS/CPR certification required. Ability to successfully complete applicable Level 2 background screening and other pre-employment requirements. Strong clinical assessment, documentation, communication, and critical-thinking skills. Ability to remain calm, professional, and clinically focused during psychiatric emergencies and high-stress situations. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team. Experience working with adult and/or geriatric psychiatric populations preferred.
Compensation & Benefits Per Diem:
Starting at $34.00 per hour , plus competitive shift differential.
