The practice specializes in sports medicine, and surgical and non-surgical treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. We are looking to hire a PACU Registered Nurse for our surgery center team . Previous PACU experience required.

EDUCATION

Completion of an accredited registered nursing (RN) program required. Must have Florida state licensure upon time of hire. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is mandatory. CPAN certification desired.

EXPERIENCE

Preferred 2-3 years of PACU experience, but a minimum of 1 year is required. Experience in post-anesthesia care is preferred.

TRAINING

Must complete OMG surgery center orientation and training to include, on the job training, and customer service awareness.

JOB SUMMARY

Provides planned, skilled nursing care for patients in the critical postoperative period. Provides additional patient surveillance to determine that patient is suitable for discharge. Provides patient and family member with an additional opportunity for education and review of the postoperative instructions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Supports the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Organization. Supports, and performs according to, approved policies and procedures. Participates as a team member in support of the total perioperative process. Considers patient rights in performance of job duties and responsibilities. 2. Contributes to the progress and development of the approved Quality Management Program. Supports risk management and participates in programs directed to patient and staff safety. Contributes to the quality management process; identifies role and contributions upon request; participates in data collection activities to support the Quality Management Program. Objectively evaluates suggestions, grievances, and processes to identify opportunities to improve performance and quality of care. 3. Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and co‑workers. Interactions are respectful and courteous. Communicates effectively and professionally using a translator when necessary. Documents that information received from the patient is disseminated to the appropriate people or departments. 4. Maintains and promotes professional competence through continuing education and other learning experiences. Participates in committees, conferences, and quality management activities. Researches and submits pertinent articles for review at staff meetings. Seeks new learning experiences by accepting challenging opportunities and responsibilities. Objectively evaluates suggestions or criticisms and attempts to improve performance or seeks further guidance, as needed. Maintains membership in relevant professional organizations. Attends and actively participates in meetings, committees, in-services, workshops, seminars, and conferences according to job responsibilities and Facility requirements. 5. Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities. Reports observed or suspected violations, hazards, and noncompliance according to Facility policy. Observes safety measures in performance of job duties and responsibilities; enforces compliance with safety and security policies and procedures. Responds to emergency situations with competence and composure. 6. Interacts appropriately with various age groups. Accurately assesses and interprets age-specific patient data. Accurately interprets age-specific patient responses to questions and instructions. Involves the patient's family/significant other in decision-making about the patient's care. Provides care appropriate to the patient's age group. Accurately applies knowledge of growth and development. Considers age-specific patient requirements when responding to emergency situations. 7. Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies and personnel. Organizes nursing activities efficiently; considers staff abilities when delegating activities. Uses equipment effectively by anticipating patient needs and providing necessary care. Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice. Assists in inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in postoperative areas. Considers cost-effectiveness in the provision of care. Maintains order and cleanliness of postoperative areas. 8. Performs thorough postoperative patient assessment prior to discharge of the patient. Assists in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation for discharge. Develops a plan for patient care based on assessment data. 9. Reviews postoperative instructions and prescriptions from the surgeon with patient and significant other and documents the patient's medical record. Informs patient and family about appropriate care and procedures to follow upon returning home. Provides comfort and reassurance to the patient and promotes privacy and dignity. Confirms that patient and significant other understand conditions that require immediate care and methods to obtain immediate care.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a ambulatory surgery center setting.

MENTAL DEMANDS

Require constant and frequent judgment and response; occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills. Require language skills adequate for high-level written and interpersonal communication in American English.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Require high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care assessment activities. Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs, to stand for long periods, occasional overhead and low reaching, and to exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Patient care activities may require the ability to exert force of up to 30 lbs. constantly, up to 40 lbs. occasionally and up to 100 lbs. rarely.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a Full-time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday.
