Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (APRN) Outpatient Cardiology & Hospital Rounding Florida Heart Institute Job Overview Florida Heart Institute is seeking an experienced Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (APRN) to join our cardiovascular team. This full-time position combines outpatient cardiology care and hospital rounding , working closely with our cardiologists, clinical staff, and hospital teams to provide comprehensive and coordinated cardiovascular care. The Nurse Practitioner will evaluate and manage patients with a wide range of acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions, assist with continuity of care between the hospital and outpatient setting, and support the physicians in the ongoing management of our cardiology patients. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOutpatient Cardiology Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, including review of medical history and physical examinations. Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions within the scope of practice. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising/collaborating cardiologists. Order, review, and interpret laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging, and cardiovascular studies. Prescribe medications and adjust treatment plans in accordance with Florida law, clinical guidelines, and practice protocols. Perform pre-operative cardiovascular evaluations and post-hospital or post-procedure follow-up visits. Provide ongoing management and education for patients with cardiovascular disease. Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, lifestyle modifications, and cardiovascular risk reduction. Coordinate patient care with primary care providers, specialists, hospitals, and other healthcare professionals. Accurately and timely document all patient encounters in the electronic medical record (EMR). Review test results and assist with appropriate patient follow-up. Participate in practice quality initiatives, clinical protocols, and efforts to improve patient care and continuity. Hospital Rounding Perform hospital rounds on assigned cardiology patients at Florida Heart Institute's affiliated hospitals. Evaluate new consultations, admissions, and established hospitalized patients. Perform follow-up evaluations and monitor patients' clinical progress. Collaborate with the attending cardiologist regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, testing, procedures, and changes in patient condition. Order and review laboratory studies, diagnostic imaging, and cardiovascular testing as appropriate. Assist with medication management and reconciliation. Coordinate discharge planning and appropriate outpatient cardiology follow-up. Communicate effectively with hospital staff, consulting physicians, patients, and family members regarding the patient's cardiovascular plan of care. Complete hospital documentation, including consultations, progress notes, and other required clinical documentation, accurately and timely. Assist in maintaining continuity of care between hospitalization and follow-up at Florida Heart Institute. Participate in call or additional hospital coverage as assigned. Additional compensation is provided for qualifying extra coverage. Cardiovascular Experience The Nurse Practitioner should be comfortable evaluating and managing patients with cardiovascular conditions including, but not limited to: Coronary artery disease Congestive heart failure Cardiac arrhythmias Hypertension Hyperlipidemia Valvular heart disease Peripheral vascular disease Pulmonary hypertension Pre-operative cardiovascular risk assessment Post-hospital and post-procedure cardiovascular care The position may also include: Reviewing and interpreting ECGs, cardiac monitoring, laboratory results, and cardiovascular diagnostic studies. Assisting with pre- and post-procedure management for cardiac catheterization, PCI, pacemaker procedures, stress testing, echocardiography, and other cardiovascular procedures. Monitoring medication therapy and cardiovascular risk factors. Following evidence-based cardiovascular guidelines and Florida Heart Institute clinical protocols. Qualifications Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Current and unrestricted Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license. Current national Nurse Practitioner certification. FNP, AGACNP, AGPCNP, or other appropriate certification for the patient population served. Current DEA registration, if required for prescribing responsibilities. Current BLS certification. Current ACLS certification. Cardiology experience strongly preferred. Hospital rounding experience preferred. Experience managing both acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills. Sound clinical judgment and ability to recognize changes in patient condition. Strong knowledge of cardiovascular disease management and current treatment guidelines. Ability to work independently within the Nurse Practitioner's scope of practice while collaborating effectively with physicians. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Professional and compassionate patient communication. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to prioritize responsibilities between outpatient and hospital settings. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment. Proficiency with electronic medical records and electronic documentation. Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, hospital staff, and administrative personnel. Physical and Travel Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while performing clinical and hospital responsibilities. Ability to travel between Florida Heart Institute office locations and affiliated hospitals as required by the position. Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Ability to respond appropriately and promptly to urgent clinical situations.
