1 Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Orthopedics unit requiring an active IA or compact RN license and at least 1 year of experience. Details 13-week assignment on a Med Surg/Ortho unit in an acute care Level 3 trauma hospital 28 beds plus 22 overflow with a 1:5 patient ratio Common diagnoses include total knee/hip/shoulder replacements, COPD, diabetes, wounds, IV infusions, dementia, oncology, hip and ankle fractures, sepsis, pneumonia, and
CHF EPIC EMR
used for charting 12-hour night shifts (0630-1900 or 1830-0700) with self-scheduling Weekend rotation required every third weekend (Friday and Saturday considered weekend nights) Float requirement to PCU and behavioral health (McDermott) units Charge nurse present on each shift and does not take a patient assignment Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:10 ratio RNs are not required to titrate drips Monitor techs available in ICU with additional monitors at the main nurses station Requirements Active IA or Compact RN license required, pending licenses not accepted Minimum 1 year of RN experience required BLS certification required BSN not required Must complete unit-specific orientation including a pass/fail open-book skills exam (90% required to pass) Driver's license required to confirm permanent residence Additional Information Focus on hourly rounding and bedside shift report practices Ideal candidates are flexible, self-directed, and open to change Patient population includes individuals with mental health, addiction, and homelessness backgrounds Navy blue scrubs required, not provided by facility First week consists of classroom orientation followed by one 12-hour shift on the unit Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year RTO must be submitted upfront; additional RTO requests will not be approved after submission First-time travelers may be considered if flexible and adaptable to unit needs
