Job Description
Encompass Health is seeking a Nurse Extern to support our inpatient rehabilitation team. Under RN supervision, you'll assist with vital signs, mobility, hygiene, and basic treatments while learning rehabilitation-focused care. You'll collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, document in EMRs, reinforce patient education, and uphold infection control and safety standards. This role offers hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to complex cases, preparing you for transition into a professional RN role within a collaborative, patient-centered environment. Responsibilities Assist RNs with patient assessments, vital signs, and basic treatments in an inpatient rehabilitation setting Support patient hygiene, mobility, and positioning to promote safe, effective recovery Document patient care and observations accurately in the electronic medical record Reinforce patient and family education under RN guidance Follow infection control and safety protocols to reduce risk of injury or infection Collaborate with the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team to support care plans Assist with rehabilitation-focused activities and therapies as directed by clinical staff Report changes in patient condition promptly to supervising nurses Required Skills Vital signs monitoring Patient hygiene and mobility assistance Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation Infection control practices Rehabilitation nursing support Basic wound care assistance Patient and family communication Interdisciplinary team collaboration Safety and fall prevention Specimen collection and labeling
