Job Description

Join HCA Healthcare as a Nurse Extern and gain hands-on clinical experience while pursuing your nursing degree. Under the supervision of licensed nurses, you will assist with patient care activities such as vital signs, hygiene, mobility, and documentation, while learning hospital procedures and standards. You'll work closely with interdisciplinary teams, support patient and family communication, and reinforce a culture of safety, compassion, and excellence. This role is designed to strengthen your clinical skills, build confidence, and prepare you for transition into a Registered Nurse position within HCA Healthcare's extensive network. Responsibilities Assist licensed nurses with direct patient care under supervision Obtain and document vital signs, intake/output, and patient observations Support patient hygiene, comfort, and mobility needs Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record Collaborate with the care team to support patient care plans Follow hospital policies, procedures, and infection control standards Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff Participate in learning opportunities and skills development Monitor patient safety and promptly report changes in condition Prepare for transition into a Registered Nurse role at HCA Healthcare Required Skills Basic patient care techniques Vital signs measurement and documentation Electronic health record (EHR) documentation Infection control and standard precautions Basic pharmacology awareness Patient mobility and safe transfer techniques Communication with patients and healthcare teams Time management in a clinical setting Basic medical terminology Observation and reporting of patient status
