Start At least 3 years' experience as an RN. Active KS license, BLS, ACLS and NRP (AHA only). This is a true L&D position that will also be required to assist with postpartum, couplet care, newborn nursery and OBGYN post op patients. Duties Monitor and assess maternal and fetal well-being during labor using advanced physiological knowledge and medical equipment such as fetal monitors and IV infusion devices. Administer medications including epidurals, analgesics, and other necessary drugs following strict aseptic techniques and hospital protocols. Assist with labor progression, perform sterile procedures like suturing, and manage obstetric emergencies with confidence and precision. Educate patients on childbirth processes, pain management options, breastfeeding techniques, and postpartum care to promote informed decision-making. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and lactation consultants to coordinate comprehensive patient care. Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health records (EHR systems) such as Epic or Cerner while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Prepare delivery rooms for procedures like cesarean sections or assisted deliveries, ensuring sterile environments and readiness for emergencies such as neonatal resuscitation or trauma situations. Skills Proven experience working in labor & delivery units with familiarity in obstetrics procedures such as catheterization, tube feeding management, and neonatal resuscitation procedures. Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology related to pregnancy, childbirth, and neonatal care. Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic or Cerner for accurate medical documentation and patient records management. Ability to perform critical care interventions including acute pain management, airway management, ventilator support, and trauma medicine when needed. Skilled in performing physical examinations, vital signs assessment, specimen collection/processing, and laboratory experience related to maternal health. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs within a hospital or community setting is highly valued. Knowledge of infection control practices, sterile processing techniques, ICD coding (ICD-10), CPT coding for procedures performed during delivery processes. Excellent communication skills for patient education on topics such as family planning or post-delivery discharge planning while adhering to HIPAA standards.
