Shift Days Key Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations. Administer medications and injections accurately, including IV infusions and catheter care. Monitor patients' conditions using telemetry and critical care techniques; respond promptly to emergencies. Document medical records meticulously within EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth. Assist with diagnostic procedures including laboratory specimen collection, phlebotomy, and imaging coordination. Implement aseptic techniques during procedures like suturing, wound care, and catheterization. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on discharge planning, case management, and long-term care strategies. Provide education on health coaching topics such as pain management, medication adherence, and chronic disease management. Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and ensure confidentiality of patient information. Support infection control protocols and participate in quality improvement initiatives aligned with NCQA standards. Duties The Medical Surgical Registered Nurse will be responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care across various clinical scenarios. This includes managing acute pain through specialized interventions, overseeing post-operative recovery in outpatient or inpatient settings, and supporting complex cases involving trauma medicine or ICU-level patients. The role requires proficiency in advanced procedures such as ventilator management, tube feeding administration, and respiratory therapy support. The nurse will also perform patient triage in urgent care or emergency room environments while coordinating with specialists in cardiology (including cardiac catheterization), nephrology (dialysis), or ophthalmology when necessary.
Additional duties encompass:
Conducting detailed patient assessments utilizing physiology knowledge and medical terminology expertise. Managing patients with infectious diseases or those requiring hospice & palliative medicine support. Utilizing ICD-10 coding for documentation accuracy; participating in laboratory testing and specimen processing. Supporting patients with developmental disabilities or memory care needs through tailored interventions. Engaging in teaching hospital protocols for neonatal resuscitation procedures or neonatal ventilator management when applicable. Ensuring aseptic technique during invasive procedures such as spinal taps or ostomy care. Participating actively in hospital medicine teams for inpatient care or outpatient clinics focused on geriatrics or pediatrics. Qualifications The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive experience working within hospital environments—preferably Level I or Level II trauma centers—and possess critical care experience in ICU settings. A valid RN license is required along with certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); additional certifications such as ACLS are preferred. Candidates should have comprehensive knowledge of EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner, along with familiarity with
ICD-9/10
coding standards.
