Travel Psychiatric Registered Nurse

Category Nursing - RN-Psych Job Type Travel A specialized registered nurse role is available on a contract basis at a well-established healthcare facility located in Prospect, KY. This position supports a busy 22-bed pediatric psychiatric unit focused on children ages 3 to 10 with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The successful candidate will bring compassion, strong clinical skills, and the ability to multitask efficiently in a high-energy environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide direct care and support to children with a range of verbal and nonverbal communication abilities. Implement de-escalation techniques to manage impulsive or agitated behaviors such as kicking, hitting, or grabbing. Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene prompting and occasional assistance with feeding. Communicate effectively and compassionately with families and caregivers, providing regular updates on patient status. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including Mental Health Technicians, Unit and Program Coordinators, Therapists, Case Managers, and Security staff. Utilize electronic medical records (Cerner) for documentation and patient care management. Engage in physical holds, timeouts, and seclusion procedures only as a last resort. Float to other child, adolescent, or adult psychiatric units as needed for coverage.

Qualifications and Experience:

Current RN license with at least 6 months of pediatric/adolescent psychiatric nursing experience. BLS certification required; CPI training provided on site. Demonstrated skill in therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and patient de-escalation. Comfortable working within a fast-paced and demanding clinical setting.

Schedule/Hours:

12-hour shifts, typically three per week with a floating shift included. Weekend rotation every other week. Holiday shifts scheduled based on unit needs. Approval required for requested time off with a five-day notice.
