Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and collaborative school nurse to support the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff at the middle school level. The Middle School Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive school health services, responding to student medical needs, managing student health conditions, and promoting a safe and healthy school environment. The nurse works collaboratively with students, families, staff, administrators, and healthcare providers to support students' health needs and access to education.

Key Responsibilities

Provide nursing care, first aid, and health services to students and staff during the school day.

Assess student health concerns and determine appropriate interventions, referrals, and follow-up.

Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, parent/guardian authorization, and applicable state regulations and district procedures.

Develop, implement, and maintain individualized health care plans and emergency action plans for students with significant or chronic health conditions.

Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency care as necessary.

Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date student health records, including health histories, medication and treatment documentation, screenings, immunization records, and health office visits.

Conduct required health screenings and provide appropriate follow-up and referrals.

Monitor student immunization and physical examination requirements and communicate with families regarding required health documentation.

Communicate and collaborate with parents/guardians, healthcare providers, school staff, and administrators regarding student health needs.

Participate in student support, Section 504, and special education processes when a student's health needs impact access to education or require nursing input.

Develop and communicate appropriate health and safety plans for field trips, extracurricular activities, and other school-sponsored activities, as needed.

Provide education and guidance to students and staff regarding health, wellness, disease prevention, and management of student-specific medical needs.

Support district and school health policies, procedures, and emergency preparedness protocols.

Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with applicable federal and state requirements.

Perform other school health-related duties as assigned.

Provide nursing coverage at other district schools, on field trips, or at school-sponsored activities, as needed.
