The Health Care Provider oversees, evaluates, and monitors the health and wellness of all campers and staff at AYF Camp Haiastan. Operating the Camp Health Center as a 24/7 facility, the Health Care Provider promotes safety, wellness, and preventive care in accordance with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts regulations and Camp Haiastan Health Center Guidelines. This position involves providing first aid, administering medications, maintaining medical records, and communicating with parents, guardians, and healthcare professionals as needed. The Health Care Provider also plays a key role in training staff on health procedures and implementing emergency response protocols. The ideal candidate is a compassionate, detail-oriented, and adaptable healthcare professional who thrives in a residential camp environment and values the holistic well-being of campers and staff. Key Responsibilities Conduct and document health screenings for all campers and staff upon arrival and departure each session. Set up and maintain the Camp Health Center, ensuring all supplies, equipment, and medications are organized and secure. Manage daily health center operations, including assessments, treatments, and medication administration for campers and staff. Maintain accurate EMR/written health logs for all visits and treatments. Communicate with parents/guardians of minors in accordance with health procedures and privacy standards. Ensure compliance with state health regulations and camp policies for medication storage, dispensing, and documentation. Meet regularly with the Summer Director to review health updates and submit required reports. Collaborate with the Executive Director, Summer Director, and Health Care Consultant to manage communicable disease prevention and response. Support the development and implementation of the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for medical and safety incidents. Monitor and restock all first-aid kits across camp facilities and for off-site activities. Participate in Staff Training Week to provide first aid, safety, and health protocol instruction to staff. Close and inventory the Camp Health Center at the end of the season according to established procedures. Qualifications & Requirements At least 21 years of age. Current, valid Massachusetts license as an RN, LPN, NP, or PA (in good standing). PALS certification preferred. Prior experience in pediatrics, camp, or school-based healthcare preferred. Ability to reside on-site for the duration of employment. Strong documentation and data management skills. Ability to communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and external medical providers. Excellent organizational and time-management skills in a variable and high-energy environment. Must display professionalism, empathy, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity at all times. Must attend all required staff training sessions prior to and during the camp season. Submission of Massachusetts CORI, SORI, and your local police department background checks that reveal no previous or pending criminal activity. Submission of all required pre-employment and post-hiring documentation, including current health status, health history, and proof of good health. Physical Demands Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout the campgrounds to respond to medical needs quickly. Able to lift, carry, and transport medical equipment or campers (up to 50 pounds). Requires frequent bending, reaching, and handling of supplies and equipment. Must be able to work extended hours, including overnight shifts, in a fast-paced, active environment. Mental & Emotional Demands Maintains calmness, professionalism, and clarity when responding to emergencies or medical incidents. Demonstrates sound judgment and critical thinking in medical assessments and treatment decisions. Balances multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and confidentiality. Exhibits empathy, patience, and effective communication when working with campers, staff, and parents. Adapts to changing conditions, schedules, and emotional demands inherent to camp life. Working Environment Camp-based environment with both indoor and outdoor responsibilities. Work performed primarily in the Health Center, with periodic movement around camp for emergencies or wellness checks. Frequent exposure to heat, humidity, and varying weather conditions. Requires on-call availability and flexibility to work day, evening, and overnight shifts as needed. Collaborative environment emphasizing teamwork, safety, and compassion.
