Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented RN MDS Coordinator to join our healthcare team. Your expertise will support clinical documentation improvement, utilization management, and accurate coding to facilitate appropriate reimbursement and high standards of care. Duties Coordinate and oversee the completion of Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments in accordance with CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) guidelines, ensuring timely and accurate submissions. Review medical records, clinical documentation, and coding (including

CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG

) to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with healthcare regulations. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—including nursing, therapy, social work, and physicians—to gather comprehensive data for assessments. Conduct documentation reviews to identify gaps or inconsistencies, implementing clinical documentation improvement strategies aligned with regulatory standards. Manage utilization review processes to support appropriate patient placement, discharge planning, and resource allocation across long-term care or acute care settings. Maintain proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks for efficient data entry and record management. Stay current on healthcare policies including

HIPAA, HEDIS

standards, NCQA requirements, and CMS regulations to ensure ongoing compliance. Requirements Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current state licensure. Extensive experience with MDS coordination within long-term care or skilled nursing facilities. Strong knowledge of Medicare regulations, long-term care regulations, and clinical documentation standards. Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or similar platforms; experience with electronic health records management is essential. Familiarity with medical coding (CPT, ICD-9/10), DRG assignment, and utilization management processes. Critical care experience including ICU or emergency medicine is highly desirable; inpatient or hospital experience is a plus. Ability to interpret physiology and anatomy knowledge to accurately assess patient conditions. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for documentation review and compliance tracking. Strong communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration and education on documentation practices. Knowledge of health regulation policies including CMS guidelines, HIPAA privacy rules, and state healthcare regulations related to medical records management.
