POSITION

School Nurse(s) - Extended Day Program

2026-2027 School Year

Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Extended Day School Nurse positions.

Flexible Hours:

Before-school, after-school, or combined shifts are available based on your interest.

Location:

On-campus at any one of our 9 school locations (location is flexible and based on student and program needs).

Before School Program Hours:

7:00am-8:45am, Monday-Friday when school is in session

After School Program Hours:

3:15pm-6:00pm, Monday-Friday when school is in session

  • Please note that the Extended Day program may operate on early release days, hours to be determined based on school calendar and program needs.

Internal candidates will be compensated at their regular hourly per diem rate. External candidates will be compensated at an anticipated starting rate of $40.00 per hour and is contingent upon experience.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Perform professional nursing duties consistent with Massachusetts guidelines, regulations, and statutes governing nursing, school health, and local district policy.
  • Work collaboratively with the school and nursing departments to support the medical needs of identified student(s) enrolled in the program(s) and respond to health and medical emergencies involving children enrolled in the program during extended day hours.
  • Manage and coordinate health services for students within the extended day setting, while interacting with their educational goals, personal health, and public health needs.
  • Promote positive safety practices within and outside of the school building.
  • Assess children for a wide range of physical and behavioral illnesses and create and implement disease prevention initiatives to promote wellness.
  • Provide medically prescribed interventions, including medication administration and treatments.
  • Provide first aid/emergency care to students and staff.
  • Collaborate with students, parents, members of the school-based team, and community health care providers and agencies to optimize student healthcare and learning.
  • Maintain comprehensive and confidential health records for students that are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Must remain proficient in current technology for health record database used throughout the system.
  • Ensure timely documentation of all encounters with students.
  • Using the nursing process, collaborate with family and student to develop and implement an individualized health care plan when appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Possess a school nurse educator's license from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (preferred but not required)
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university (required)
  • Hold a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Massachusetts (M.G.L. c.71, s.53) (required)
  • Current CPR certification/AED training from a recognized provider (such as the American Red Cross or American Heart Association) (required)
  • Pediatric background (preferred)
  • Demonstrates the values of Shrewsbury Public Schools (required)
  • A commitment to the education and care of all students (required)
