Job Description
Wareham Public Schools is seeking qualified and compassionate Substitute School Nurses to provide nursing coverage in schools serving students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.Substitute school nurses support the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff while maintaining a welcoming, confidential, and inclusive school health environment.
ResponsibilitiesProvide nursing care to students in accordance with professional standards, school district policies, and applicable Massachusetts regulations.
Assess and respond to student illnesses, injuries, and health concerns.
Administer medications and treatments as authorized and appropriately documented.
Implement individualized health care plans, emergency action plans, and student accommodations.
Monitor students with chronic health conditions, including asthma, diabetes, allergies, seizure disorders, and other medical needs.
Communicate appropriately with parents/guardians, school administrators, teachers, counselors, health care providers, and emergency personnel.
Maintain accurate and confidential health records and documentation.
Assist with health screenings, immunization compliance, and other school health requirements.
Provide health education and promote healthy practices when appropriate.
Respond to medical emergencies and activate emergency procedures as needed.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized health office.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsCurrent Massachusetts Registered Nurse license in good standing.
Current CPR and First Aid certification; additional certifications, such as AED training, preferred.
School nursing experience or experience working with children and adolescents preferred.
Knowledge of pediatric nursing, medication administration, emergency care, and applicable school health practices.
Strong communication, organization, judgment, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with students of varying ages, abilities, and medical needs.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
Successful completion of all required background checks and employment screening.
Schedule and CompensationSubstitute/per diem assignments based on district needs.
Opportunities may be available at schools serving students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12.Compensation and employment terms are established in accordance with Wareham Public Schools applicable substitute/per diem rates and policies.
