$42/Hourly General Description Watertown Public Schools is seeking a compassionate and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to provide dedicated 1:1 nursing services to a student with complex medical needs during the school day. This position ensures the student's safe access to education in accordance with their Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Individualized Healthcare Plan (IHP). This is a Monday-Friday school-year position aligned with the student's daily schedule.
Responsibilities:
The 1:1 RN will provide continuous skilled nursing care throughout the school day, including: Tracheostomy care and airway management Tracheal suctioning and routine trach maintenance Administration and monitoring of prescribed oxygen therapy Ongoing monitoring of oxygen saturation via pulse oximetry Administration of prescribed nebulizer treatments Enteral feeding tube care, including feedings and medication administration Continuous health assessment and monitoring of respiratory status Implementation of the student's IHP and Emergency Action Plan Accurate and timely clinical documentation Collaboration with school nurse, special education staff, related service providers, and family Emergency response in accordance with district protocols The RN must be able to function independently while maintaining communication with the district nursing supervisor and building administration.
Required Qualifications:
Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license Current BLS/CPR certification (Healthcare Provider level) Experience with: Tracheostomy care and suctioning Oxygen administration and respiratory monitoring Pulse oximetry Nebulizer treatments Enteral feeding (G-tube and/or J-tube) Strong pediatric assessment and emergency response skills Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary educational team
Preferred Qualifications:
Pediatric or medically fragile population experience Experience in school nursing or community-based nursing Familiarity with special education processes and IEP team collaboration
Physical Requirements:
Ability to provide mobility assistance to student as needed Ability to remain attentive and responsive throughout the school day Ability to respond promptly in emergency situations Frequent standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods. Occasional lifting and carrying of medical supplies and equipment (up to 25 lbs). Dexterity to perform medical procedures and operate standard nursing equipment. Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations. Capacity to communicate clearly and effectively in high-pressure environments.
